The dark side of the wolf spirit animal
The dark side of the wolf totem: Sensitivity about feelings of threat
A wolf totem animal can represent a perceived threat or feeling you are being threatened. The presence of this spirit animal could be a reminder of an event, situation or a person you feel threatened by.
The wolf could reflect something that may have a “predatory” feel to it and instill a feeling of vulnerability that is not reassuring. Encountering your spirit animal in such a way invites you to look at who or what in your life is having such an influence.
Perhaps your spirit animal is warning you about challenges with personal boundaries: You may feel you have exposed yourself too much with someone or in a certain situation and need to pull back or strengthen emotional or physical boundaries with that person or in the context of that experience. The wolf as a spirit animal could also remind you that you’re facing stiff competition at work or that the behavior of people around may feel like you have to deal with a “pack of wolves”.
The wolf as representation being guided or misguided by instincts
Since a common meaning for the wolf spirit animal emphasizes the role of instincts, having this animal as a guide or totem could point to your relationship with how you live your life, and more specifically how you trust or mistrust your instincts and intuitive guidance.
Check whether you feel threatened by your own instincts and feelings. The presence of your wolf power animal could reflect your inner emotional landscape and bring to your awareness your own feelings about a matter that is highly emotionally charged.
Dream interpretation of the wolf spirit animal
The dream meanings associated with the wolf point to powerful instincts or habits that could be experienced as aggressive or dominating by others. Wolves in dreams convey the energetic imprint of strong sexual energy or addictive behaviors of different kinds that would benefit from being kept in check.
If a woman dreams of a wolf in a nightmare or anxious dream, she may be getting in touch with anxiety relating to a male partner who may be pushing his sexual desires very strongly or pushing her boundaries. The intensity of the relationship can cause fear and be experienced as a threat that the wolf symbolizes in the dream.
If the dream has a positive tone or outcome, the wolf could be interpreted as a guiding symbol for trusting your instincts more or expressing them in a more balanced manner. If you have such a dream, ask yourself if you feel at ease and supported by your instincts, especially your sexuality or a partner’s sexual expression, or other types of “cravings” in your life.

- Like the wolf that howls, do you need to let some of the tension out and express yourself loud and clear in your circle of close relationships?

For much of my life, I was drawn to wolves. I needed to know everything about them: their habits, their social practices, their history. For me, I had personified the wolf in my own efforts to be even closer to understanding. As a child I grew up in a home where I constantly felt trapped and unexpressed. Though I excelled in life, I suffered greatly on a personal level at home. I would find ways to escape so that I could be free to express myself: whether it was through my dance, my music, or my writing. I read books about them, did a research project about them, even visited Yellowstone State Park while on college visits to learn even more and see the land where they used to roam freely.
It wasn’t until much later that I came to understand why the wolf was so attractive to me. When I was in college, I visited a local pow-wow and listened to some of the elders tell stories about the wolf. And my childhood had finally begun to make sense to me. My wolf totem protected me. I believe that so strongly, that I got a wolf tattoo.
STORY OF MY LIFE
I know how you feel. :(
Ive been so overly attracted to wolves for many many years. I never really knew why. I find myself staring at them like im somewhere else. We had some at our county fair one time. I just sat on the ground starring at them into their eyes and its like im in a trance i feel do pulled into their eyes. Am i weird or whats the connection. I know there is something with this animal. I need an explanation
I have the same interest as you too. I would appreciate an explanation from someone please. (Please don’t tell me that it’s because my name is Wolfie because it’s really a silly answer, if you think about it.)
There are several things that could cause that level of infatuation. One, you could very well have a wolf as your Totem, (spirit Animal, I myself DO have a Wolf totem. I grew up in a native American family so I am very close to native American lore and rituals. On the flip side, it could just be that, an infatuation, Wolves are VERY beautiful, mystic, and enchanting creatures, and it is human nature to be fascinated by things that are mysterious to us. But more than likely on some deeper level you have some connection to the wolf whether it be Your personal totem, or someone in your life that has had a big impact on your life, peoples Totems do rub off on others to some degree. My wife’s Totem is a Tropical bird, however after several years of living together, she started showing signs of a wolf totem, just as I started showing signs of the bird. SO there’s some food for thought for you. Hope it helps.

I’ve seen a wolf in all my dreams ever since I was 10 now I’m 12. My friend thinks I’m a nerd where I read books about them all the time.
Shelby, you are not a nerd! The wolf is a really powerful guided. Maybe look at how you feel when you see it in your dream. This might hlp you understand what it is trying to tell you.
I had a wolf in my dream last night! That is what brought me to this site. It was really powerful. White and grey with piercing blue eyes! It was protecting me! Which makes total since to me because I have been having an issue with a girl who has been harassing me! It is a relief tome to know the wolf is with me!
I had a dream of a tiger with sharp claws and dark green eyes
lackd not seek out my spirit animal. He sought me. I was meditating and he appeared. I typed in “wolf spirit guide” on Google, to see if I could find out what it meant and why it scared me. Now I know! Now on to the White Buffalo.
The wolf has always been in my mind and I’ve taken a test that shows the wolf is my spirit animal. I always feel like I should be free like a wolf. does anyone else feel this way?
Yes! I do! I have the same personality of a wolf, and sometimes I just randomly start running whenever I see a field, and I often wish about life with nobody telling you what to do, being free from the pressures of life.
i dont know if everything about my spirit animal and me is true, but i can be sure a wolf is truly my spirit animal, because i love freedom, and i just have the feeling to never trust anyone but myself, unless you have proven to me i can trust you. And if you do have earned my trust and respect, then i will love and protect you until i die. But, if you have broken my trust, i will never forgive you and it will be hard for you to get my trust again. I am loyal to my best friends, and i will never break i promise.
And for some reason, whenever i am daydreaming or remaking some of my favorite movie scenes in my dreams when im sleeping, i always see myself as a mysterious, brave, large white wolf with a friendly, yet shy nature, who has strength more then 100 heavy armoured (like in the middle ages with armour and swords) men and has the ability when someone i love had died in a battle, in exchange of my life i can bring him/her back…
I am weird, i know :/ …..
And i forgot to mention that my wolf always has deep, sky blue eyes, no yellow or brown, but sky blue…
P.S. actually, i was reading some comments here and i see a lot of you see exactly white wolfs in your dreams…. hmm, what does that mean?
That is so cool my spirit animal is a wolf and I have a wolf named Tate most people would think wolfs would be a bad thing but Tate is such a big baby:)
It’s really strange. I’ve been looking up a lot of websites like these. Those that describe me as a wolf or a dog are startlingly accurate. Those that say that I’m something else give a description that is completely different from my personality. The accuracy quite the bit disturbing, I say, but on the bright side, it makes me feel contended with what I have (a really rare state for such a pessimistic person like me). Does anyone a similar experience to mine?
My 9-year old son had a dream last night, where a white wolf came to our yard. This wolf was all white, with a grey stripe on the fore-head. It was not attacking or hostile, just sat down and stared at my son for a while in the dream. After that it moved it’s head, and something came out of the grey stripe in the fore-head and all went grey around my son. Next the scenery changes, my son Mikael is standing on a very high cliff, overlooking a great ocean, bigger than the Pacific he said. At his feet is also a huge waterfall, and when he looks out to the ocean he can see 3 islands. The one on the left is where a birthday party for his Dad is, with lots of people. The one on the right is a traffic park for children. The one in the middle looks like a forest island, with very high trees, but when you go there you can find a high skyscraper within that forest, which surround the skyscraper in a circle. This dream was so intense and made him feel so happy that he did not want to wake up at all. :-) What makes it fascinating is how was able to describe it so in detail to me and his father! As I have not worked with spirit animals before, or hardly have any knowledge about them, could you maybe explain a bit what the white wolf represents when a child dreams about it? Any information will truly be much appreciated. Thanks you if possible. :-)
Hello, Sari! A good book you may want to check out is Animal-Speak by Ted Andrews. It helped me discover my animal totem/spirit animal and helped me to understand some dreams I had involving animals. In response to your son’s dream: In the book, Andrews explains that children are more naturally open, and so they are able to easily recognize their special animal. My animal totem is a wolf as well! Hope this helps! :)
I dreamt that I was sitting by a shed like building and two men in full black attire with their heads covered were watching me in the back ground. A woman was giving me books on mysterious stuff about the moon goodness. There was a wolf running around me in circles it looked savage and aggressive but it just circled me over and over. I wasn’t frightened by the wolf, but I did not want to show the books to the men watching me in the distance…
I keep dreaming that I am a caged raging wolf. Sometimes I’m outside of the cage looking in and at other times I am the caged in wolf. And at other times I am a wolf running through the woods. Why?
I can only explain the first part. (From my personality,) I believe that your dream shows that you are (probably) a person who wants something, but when you’re given that, you try to shy away, for example attention. In your case, it’s freedom. Hope this helps a bit. I have similar dreams too.
(I am apparently addicted to this website! XD) Well, have you ever thought that spirits of an animal can be your spirit animal? I kinda agree with Wolfie on this one, but this wolf of your dreams could be reminding you of his/her life. Maybe he/she was a wolf kept in a cage, roaring for revenge, possibly after a loss, and dreamt of running free, being released to where wolves really belong…
I have a wild imagination, but you can consider this if you like.
For a few years now i’ve been dreaming about me being in the forrest and a white wolf walking right next to me. Since i had this dream somehow i keep hearing the wolf howling in my head. I did find out what her name was. Her name is Amaterasu. She keeps showing up at my side whenever i meet someone new. When she growls towards that person for some reason that person betrays me after a while. If Amaterasu sits down next to me that person usually stays a friend who i can relax around. Is this all a coincidence or is my wolf able to see into a persons soul?
If you don’t know yet Amaterasu is the goddess of the sun in Japanese mythology and at one point appears as white wolf with red markings. It isn’t unusual for for animals to be able to sense the good or bad in people & probably just means you have good instincts. I’d listen to your wolf carefully, even if you don’t believe in spirit animals it may be your subconscious warning you about something or in this case someone.
Recently, whenever I close my eyes I find myself in a field. I’m laying on a rock, just looking up at the sun. I can see the mountains and smells the forest. I can hear animals running all around me. There’s this woman there. Shes tall, powerful, and wears a black dress. Her eyes are black, but not in a scary way, I fell safe next to her. Her hair is long and black. Ill sit there and have a conversation with her. Then, a pack of wolves will run past and we will look at each other, jump up, and change into wolves. Her’s is pitch black. Mine is white, green eyes, and a mixture of black, gray, and red on my wolfs back. I can hear this voice in the back of my mind, and I know it y wolf. Her name is Rain. The woman I have been seeing, her name is Luna. We are a pack. My wolf, Rain, whenever I’m in the woods or just away from people I can call her name, my eyes change color, and I can hear better, see better, and smell better. Could this have anything to do with how I have recently become a Wiccan? I feel safer now. My instincts are better, I listen to my gut better. I am an Alpha. I have embraced it.
