Wolf power or spirit animals point to an appetite for freedom and living life powerfully, guided by instincts. When a wolf manifests its presence as a guide in your life, it could be a call to live your life more freely, to bring the intensity of passion in your everyday endeavors.
Wolves are wild animals that are not easily domesticated and when they appear as spirit guides, they could be an invitation to look at what supports your authentic self and the true expression of yourself. The wolf totem is a reminder to keep your spirit alive and trust your instincts to find the way that will best suit you.
An example of determination and resilience
In the wild, wolves may face many challenges and obstacles, but they persevere and find ways to survive and thrive. This tenacious animal can adapt to changing circumstances, no matter how hard they seem to be.

A symbol of community and connection

The dark side of the wolf spirit animal
The dark side of the wolf totem: Sensitivity about feelings of threat
A wolf totem animal can represent a perceived threat or feeling you are being threatened. The presence of this spirit animal could be a reminder of an event, situation or a person you feel threatened by.
The wolf could reflect something that may have a “predatory” feel to it and instill a feeling of vulnerability that is not reassuring. Encountering your spirit animal in such a way invites you to look at who or what in your life is having such an influence.
Perhaps your spirit animal is warning you about challenges with personal boundaries: You may feel you have exposed yourself too much with someone or in a certain situation and need to pull back or strengthen emotional or physical boundaries with that person or in the context of that experience. The wolf as a spirit animal could also remind you that you’re facing stiff competition at work or that the behavior of people around may feel like you have to deal with a “pack of wolves”.
The wolf as representation being guided or misguided by instincts
Since a common meaning for the wolf spirit animal emphasizes the role of instincts, having this animal as a guide or totem could point to your relationship with how you live your life, and more specifically how you trust or mistrust your instincts and intuitive guidance.
Check whether you feel threatened by your own instincts and feelings. The presence of your wolf power animal could reflect your inner emotional landscape and bring to your awareness your own feelings about a matter that is highly emotionally charged.
Dream interpretation of the wolf spirit animal
The dream meanings associated with the wolf point to powerful instincts or habits that could be experienced as aggressive or dominating by others. Wolves in dreams convey the energetic imprint of strong sexual energy or addictive behaviors of different kinds that would benefit from being kept in check.
If a woman dreams of a wolf in a nightmare or anxious dream, she may be getting in touch with anxiety relating to a male partner who may be pushing his sexual desires very strongly or pushing her boundaries. The intensity of the relationship can cause fear and be experienced as a threat that the wolf symbolizes in the dream.
If the dream has a positive tone or outcome, the wolf could be interpreted as a guiding symbol for trusting your instincts more or expressing them in a more balanced manner. If you have such a dream, ask yourself if you feel at ease and supported by your instincts, especially your sexuality or a partner’s sexual expression, or other types of “cravings” in your life.

- Like the wolf that howls, do you need to let some of the tension out and express yourself loud and clear in your circle of close relationships?

I just had this dream right now. The dream started off as I enter someones house at night time with my brother’s dog. It was crowded with dog owners. Judging from what was going on it looked like some sort of “dog party”. The dogs started playing with each other and, soon enough, looked like they were having a good time from the interaction. I saw my two best friends in the house. I sat next to one of them, Eddy, on a couch that was opposite of the entrance door while my other friend, Sergio, sat on the floor front of me so he can play around with his dog. I look through the transparent metal door to notice that it had been snowing outside and morning was already rising. I then see a black figure moving through the snow. I immediately knew it was a wolf. The wolf looked like it just ate something in the snow and quickly disappeared. A thought came into my mind, automatically, telling me that the wolf was going inside the house. Suddenly, the wolf appeared in front of me as if it teleported. It looked at me dead in the eyes for what seemed like 20 seconds. I stared backed at its yellow eyes. The wolf’s fur on its face was slightly longer than a usual wolf and pointed in erratic directions. It showed its teeth to me. Fear swept over me but it was not fear for my own safety, it was the fear for others. I shout a command to the people inside the house, “Do not move!”. The wolf swiftly, without warning, snapped Sergio’s left ear. Sergio reeled back in pain and horror. I shout again, repeating the same command to my friend, but he tries to fight back. An orgy of violence ensues. My friend manages to stagger into the kitchen, take out a five gallon jug from the water cooler and throw it at the wolf. The wolf dodges it. Sergio stands there disorientated looking back at the wolf not knowing what to do next as the wolf growls at him. I yell again “Stop that Sergio! Stop attacking!!” The wolf then runs out the door entrance. Eddy and I scowl at Sergio for driving the wolf away. Sergio stammers that he was trying to defend himself since the wolf tried killing him. I told him the wolf merely snapped next to his ear but did not try to hurt him in anyway. I continue berating him, I wanted that wolf to stay.
I believe this dream is telling me that I need to do something with my friend, Sergio, since there have been recent problems occurring Between him, Eddy and me. We tried telling him to stop what he is does and leave us be but he does not comply. I guess I need to take drastic measures or else he will continue hindering us.
I just had a dream two nights ago, it was the first with wolves.
I was walking in a wide open space with thick snow on the ground and a light snow falling. It was in the middle of nowhere but I had to cross some railroad tracks and as I’m crossing in the middle of the left – right running tracks the trains are coming in the distance so the gates come down and I’m trapped on the middle platform. Then wolves start to casually walk out toward me and I knew I was in trouble but I didn’t know how to tell who was bad. The wolves were 4 white ones that had chunks of charcoal in their fur, almost to disguise them. And there were 3 blackish-brown ones. And before I knew it a white one was at my side howling at the darker ones, then he moved over and another white one came to my side and howled. I set a hand on his fur and I knew they were my protection. Then one of the trains was in a disaster and I could see flames over the hill, I ran to go over there. And I inew I could do it safely because the white wolves were at my back. But quickly there was a hill around me that was impossible to navigate..
That’s it! This dream might have significance because I’m a foreigner in Japan always around high ranking businessmen and I’m a young Canadian. Sometimes people try to use you, and sometimes others protecting you against something you can’t handle.. I don’t know for sure but it’s just my ideas! Thanks for reading!!
I was around 13 or 14 when one of our female dogs went into the wood of NC and come back pregnant. She later had her pups on my sister bed, which happened to be under my bed, since we shared a bunk bed. The puppies looked like they were half wolf. We were offered lots of money for the puppies, but we gave all but one away. We kept the white male puppy. He was very protective of the family and bite the person who stole him. When he was stolen he was white with black hair started coming out on his back. He looked like a small wolf, he even had the big paws. I loved him so much that now I love wolves and feel like I am a pack person and a lot like a good loving wolf. I do not believe wolves are evil and that I have the wolf spirit inside me.
NICE man glad to hear hoorah to the pack, always remember that the strength of the pack is the wolf and that of the wolf is the pack
merci
I don’t think a wolf is my spirit animal since it’s only appeared in a show I’ve been watching and a dream last night where I became one. I stood before a mountain of evergreen trees as a human and saw the peak from afar. But my mentor in my dream told me I must go into the mountain alone because that’s the way to get out of here and find civilization again. So as I embarked on my journey I turned into a wolf. And there were two other people who had to turn into wolves and go on their own journey but when night fell it was too scary for all of us so we met and decided to stick together at least through the night.
One night I had a dream that I was at my school. Part of it changed into a forest. I went to explore the forest and it was at night. I saw some of my friends so I ran to catch up with them. As I ran I felt my self turn into a wolf. What does this mean?
A few nights ago, I had a wolf and actually wolves eventually, appear in my dream. At first, I was scared, very anxious and tense and then calmness came within me. The wolves were helping me protect my crystal (rose quartz) from my former partner. I felt fear and anxiousness but I also felt protected and very willing to continue on with the wolves by my side. I woke up from this dream, it being very apparent, remembering a lot. That morning, I went down to visit a healer in my area. We were working on body and emotion decoding. I later that day went on a trip up north of me to a gathering of many healers around the area. A man walked in with a wolf that he bred. It was the wolf that stuck by me in the dream. I approached the man and told him of this story, we laughed and shared stories and shared gifts that we both obtain. I decided tonight, as a form of not being able to sleep, to look up the meaning of a wolf in your dreams. I fell upon this and now am questioning whether or not it was anxious or calm in my dream or if he (the wolf) was conveying both meanings to me. As of now, the both relate to my life as I just got out of a toxic relationship with a former partner and as following my intuitive and intuition on having the courage to leave and continue of this journey that I am on.
Hi Bear,
First I just want to thank you for sharing your experiences with the wolf. Second I want to congratulate you and acknowledge how courageous it was for you to remove yourself from a toxic situation and have the strength to carry-on; to continue to do the work that needs to be done in order to heal. I went to a guided meditation a week ago today and was asked to look into a basin filled with water. I saw a white wolf, a ruby, and my spirit guide gave me a gift of bow and arrows. I had been feeling anxiety and restlessness leading up to the meditation. I felt calm afterwards but it only lasted a day. When I went to work the anxiety was back full force in my stomach. I resigned as manager realizing that I need more time to connect with myself, to heal and get back to what serves me and what doesn’t. I am grateful the wolf has come to me, it has helped me see what I need to do. I only hope I will one day meet my white wolf in person.
I got wolf as my spirit animal and I think it could be true. But I’ve never seen a wolf in person, only at zoos maybe. And I’m a little confused also, can anyone please tell me how I figure out what my wolfs’ name and colours are? How exactly do I find these things out…
