- Patience
- Receptivity
- Feminine energy
- Creativity

- Shadow self, dark aspects of life or personality
The spider as a spirit animal offers many interpretations. Its symbolism has both a dark and a light side, reflecting its connection with life’s many facets.
Spider spirit animal: Symbol of creativity
In many cultures, the spider is given credit for its ability to weave intricate webs that are a miracle of organic engineering. If you have the spider as an animal spirit guide, you may have an affinity with acts of creation and the ability to create delicate, intricate things or ideas that are also strong.
As the weaver of the web, the spider symbolizes the spirit of creation. In several traditions, she’s the totemic symbol of the Mother, strong feminine energy. In Ancient Egypt, the spider was used as a symbol to represent the goddess of the Divine Mother, Neith. In some American Indian tribes, it is considered as the symbol for the creator of the world and by extension is associated with the female creative energy.

Patience: The wisdom of the spider totem
Like the spider waiting her prey patiently, the presence of this spirit animal in your life could point to the need to show patience regarding a project or some ideas that you are trying to realize. Giving some time while paying attention to how events are unfolding and acting when the opportunity truly arise might be a lesson of wisdom from the spider spirit animal.
Symbolism of the spider: Life spirit and weaver of destiny
Just like the spider weaves her beautifully engineered web, this spirit animal fosters the integration of all parts and aspects of your life into a whole. When the spider shows up in your life, this spirit animal could guide you to integrate some piece of your personal “puzzle” and gain a more coherent perspective on your life.
The spider is a spirit animal whose purpose is to inspire you to gain perspective on an issue or project you contemplate taking on. Feel free to explore the many facets of the problem you are facing in order to find the appropriate solution. The power of this animal encourages you to count on your ability to view things from multiple angles and weave mental and intuitive flexibility into your daily thinking.
Spider spirit animals and your shadow self
If the spider shows up in your life, this spirit animal may remind you of negative aspects of your personality or your life that need to come to the light more fully. For many, spiders inspire fear or at least some form of aversion. As such, they tend to be associated with what psychologists would call “the shadow self”. In brief, your “shadow” or “shadow self” are aspects of your personality or your life that you or other people deem unworthy or not likable and are therefore rejected or repressed.
The spider as a spirit animal does not typically take on these negative attributes. Nevertheless, its presence in your life might bring up negative feelings or unease. Whenever you feel your relationship with your power animal is characterized by tension, discomfort or fear, you can ask yourself where these feelings also appear in your life. Look for any association with your personal feelings, even if it indirectly leads you to other areas of your life, such as work, family, or a relationship for instance.
Here’s another question to ask to interpret the meaning of the spider spirit animal and the guidance it offers: What kind of relationship or connection did you or did you want to establish with this animal? Was the spider threatening or harmful? Did you kill or harm it? The answer will indicate the kind of dynamic that is shaping up between you and what the spider represents.
Dreams: How to interpret spiders and spider spirit guides in dreams
The symbolism of the spider in dreams is generally associated with the archetype of the feminine. If the spider appears in your dreams as a spirit animal guide or as your totem, pay attention to the messages it’s offering to you: They are likely related to an important direction you’re taking in your life.
When you dream of spiders, chances are that it refers feminine energy in your life. This dream symbol could represents a woman you know or your own connection with qualities usually considered as feminine, such as receptivity, patience, creativity.
An important element to consider when you interpret the meaning of the encounter with the spider in your dream is the reaction and feelings you experienced at that time: Were you afraid? Or rather intrigued or fascinated? Was the overall atmosphere of the dream scary and stressful or enchanting, adventurous?
If you want to kill it, you might be repressing some feelings or trying to remove tension from your life. If it looks harmful or it is threatening to you, you may feel that some aspects of your personality or your life are not aligned with your highest interest or that you or your people around you are rejecting them. The spider in a negative dream could symbolize your fears or an adverse influence in your life.

Two nights ago I was sitting on a love seat with my fiancé at his sisters new house and my fiancé noticed a little brown spider about to land on me and he got it and put it to the side before it landed on me. Not even 10 minutes later another spider identical to the first, and in the same spot did the same thing, and again my fiancé caught it before it landed on me. I didn’t think anything of it until the second one almost landed on me and I started to feel paranoid and for the rest of the night I continued to look up and all around to make sure no more would land on me but I didn’t see another spider at all that night. I have never looked up spirit animals until this week when me and my fiancé were travelling down a road and a hawk swooped down in front of the car, a few days later on the same road in the same spot, another hawk did the same thing. Then my fiancé told me that he had also seen a hawk when he was alone driving in the car days prior. So me and my fiancé saw a hawk twice in the same spot on different days, then he see’s one alone while driving, and now with the spiders. Can anyone tell me what this means, or symbolizes considering their were two hawks seen when me and my fiancé were side by side and then the two spiders when we were side by side? I’m super interested!
Have your mind going around a particular profound idea, that scares you, or you dont feel much confident about?
Spiders are women friends, I believe they were greeting and accepting the whole you (even that “dark” part)and they were inviting you to be brave and do the same (And I dont mean following the darkness, oh no, but to face it and make peace between you 2!). As your spiders were daring coming near you, unpredictable human.
Hawks on the other hand mean new beggings/ wisdom. Again, I think they are trying to give you courage on this new stage, its time for you and your fiance/husband to face your fears and remember that thogheter you are amazing!
An extra thought: dont let your fears get in the way of something that you decided thogheter. Since he is the one seeing the spiders first and telling you about it, it makes me think he is trying to help you with all his energy, but there is only so much he can do,(since the message was there for both, but he saw it 1st meaning he was the only one aware at the moment, and as a male he “fixed” the problem. It will be important to consider: What was distracting you?) you need to catch up and bring your female
powers (love, spirituality, connection, creativity, harmony,…) with you woman and start wondering!
Let me know if it made sense! I’m always looking for any positive feedback :)
Always a blessing to be next Weeks,
Everyday at around the same time a spider wanders around my ceiling and then he’s gone until the next day when he repeats his route. Any thoughts?
This is going to sound weird, but I don’t know where else to ask this question, so.
I have noticed for years now that, more often than not, after I masturbate, a spider has appeared on my ceiling.
I really can’t figure out the meaning of that at all, and Google yields no results. Anyone have any ideas?
Also, if this helps at all, I am very spider-phobic.
Thank you for any info!
Do ou masterbate more than you feel is “good” for your best and highest self? Perhaps it’s a sign to let that habit go. Or perhaps you masterbate to avoid thinking of other deep things about your self or life? Or avoid doing tasks? The spider could be trying to guide you. Listen more to your intuition than anything. What do YOU think the spiders message it. Whatever you’re thinking about…trust.
Peace
I have two big spiders guarding my house right now. One in the front and one in the back. Same type of spiders-they wait till sundown and then weave their web. By Sun up its down except for around three anchor points-fascinating. Every night they weave their beautiful web,and every morning it’s taken back up. I have been in the process of remembering how to manifest my desires,so I will have patience as I weave my version of reality in this world of Gaia. Thank you for your service…
I find spiders all the time, had a daddy long legs move in with me for about a month, tried killing it, there it was so I just let him or her stay in. I moved outo ????but not because of the spider. Dreamed last night that a spider was in my new place! I’ve been working on exploring my creativity and deciding on a second career. Reading about this helps.
I see and sense spiders. I used to try to keep them as pets, but it failed. I can remember watching my neighbour feeding a huge pet spider in his shed as a child. I also had a dream about a spider factory with a conveyor belt that projected into my bedroom wall, delivering giant spiders into my room, which began a more phobic relationship with spiders. I have always had to weave around others’ abuse and strong opinions and lately I’m discovering shadow self and trying to bring as much to the light and angels as possible. I’m training in sea priestess work and the water element. I feel part of my future work involves uncovering child abuse and ritualistic abuse. Quite intimidating… I was a teacher for many years and understand children quite well, but adults are more tricky. I think spiders are trying to address this shadow work as my power animal.
If anyone has any insights, I’d be interested.
Went to use the washroom this morning
In the bathtub was a very big spider, 6″ leg span with a small grey body, took a big container and got it inside the container without any damage, let it go when i found some trees near my work.
The odd thing is i have been watching creatures for signs and have had a lot of spot on affirmations about things i should do. But this spider sign is saying the opposite, confusing, maybe its just a spider in the tub, lol
About a week ago I found a baby daddy long leg in my room. I was happy because they are friendly and that I wouldn’t have to worry about getting bites or being uncomfortable about having a spider live with me.
Backtrack to when I was maybe 5 or 6, one of my most vivid memories of being a child was sitting underneath the dinner table hanging out with a daddy long leg. Present day, that pleasant memory and experience heavily affected how I encountered this baby daddy long leg.
More started appearing, and they all webbed by my bedside. I was happy I had some pals because sometimes I get lonely and thought it’d be fun to try to name and feed them. Also during this time there was also a big daddy long leg in the kitchen accompanied by a baby. All of this happened so suddenly. I am pretty aware of my surroundings, especially at home. I had an inclination to find out more about these gentle creatures and felt like I had some sort of connection to them. Some sort of heavy emotion where everything was okay…
So yesterday I decided to catch and release the few I thought were in my room… I lost count of how many there were. I started releasing the first few I knew of, then saw a HUGE one under my bed which I also caught and released. Then I saw on my dresser by the wall… A handful more. I didn’t want to harm these fragile beings, and even accidentally dropping one with a hurt leg made me sad. The weird part that didn’t make sense was after living in this apartment for 10 years , why is this happening now?
Even today, there were a few (non daddy long legs) in the bathroom… Then I went outside and counted at least 3, and they were all different types (at least to my knowledge). When I was outside I just stared at a big one. I just stared. I don’t know why. And when I came back into my kitchen I counted seven. One of which I had never seen INSIDE and was by far the largest of all the spiders I have seen in my apartment. AND they were all different spiders too.. The ones I’ve seen in and outside.
I didn’t think to look up a spider as a spirit animal, in fact I kind of joked about it before actually going ahead and finding out more about the subject. I’ve never related to any symbolism like this, at the scale I have experienced it at. I couldn’t stop tearing up because it’s me. It’s me.
I am trying to start a healthier and happier lifestyle right now, meaning being free of substance abuse and finding positive things to daily to fill my time and stay busy. It’s hard, really hard. There’s also a lot about myself I don’t like- I have awful anxiety and don’t want to deal with an undiagnosed care of depression. I just want to free myself of this, although childhood abuse has messed me up I’m still trying to not let it bother me although it has shaped who I am at this very moment. I also want to get back to feeling sharp again, and remembering more. I want to be better at being me overall.
The other part I truly connect to is about creativity. I don’t like to label myself, but I have been blessed with the curse of the artist. It’s who I am, and I communicate through my photography and am even going to a really good art school. I am anxious to start in the fall because I keep thinking of the work I’ll make and what to do for classes and myself.
The web spinning I can heavily relate to because I am in the beginning of my 20’s and want to create my own life and accomplish many things that will bring me happiness. Even now, choosing a sober and healthier lifestyle is part of creating my “web”. There’s so much to this animal and the meaning as to why it has rapidly begun appearing in my life in a short span of time.
daddy long legs are not spiders.
Yes, In fact they are. They go by ‘Daddy long legs’ Or ‘Cellar spiders’ and their scientific name is ‘Pholcidae’.
It’s been a while since I had a dream with spiders in it. but as I read this in depth explanation of how spiders are the harbingers and carry signs of “creativity”, I instantly felt connected. I have a huge arachnophobia and it seems that dreams are the inversion of our subconscious, meaning our rationality goes right out the door and why we have no memory of it is because our conscious mind we use when awake is what has the rationality and active parts that aren’t present or actively firing off in our subconscious. our subconscious is where our fear is truly built into. our conscious mind is where the filter remains, rationalizing and making sense of the world around us.
Back on track with my point. I have had a few number of LARGE spiders in my life, the ones that come in my dreams are often hanging around. but as I see them, they are very intimidating and just lurk. like there was a time in my dream that I was in my house ;(mind you i live with my parents, Male, I’m 21 and still in college); and i was in the garage with two platter sized tarantulas clung to the ceiling, one clung to the space just above the door to the inside of the house, and one vaguely off in the middle so no matter where I went or tried to relocate the spiders would be somewhat on top of me. they were blackish grey, and each digit to their legs had a gradient-like pattern and the core joints were bright orange, It instantly reminded me of Bengal tarantulas, like tiger tarantulas.
The moment i read that if Spiders came as threatening in dreams, it meant that somewhere my creativity may be hindered in a way that makes spreading my wings a hard task to follow because of outside influences.
As I said, I am in college right now and sadly i have finished all of my art based classes. So i’m focused mainly on the technical ;(i school at the Art Institute); Almost constantly I’m worried that with all of this technical based classes that I may have trouble later on expressing and honing my creative abilities. I am a well devoted artist with a wide range of mediums I can use, so finding the materials is not my problem at all. It feels as if i am being kept from strengthening, pursuing and gathering knowledge to its fullest potential because I barely have any time to myself anymore. Though I know I will be able to get back on track after college, i wish to become a concept artist and a great one at that for a Video Game company!
Actually there are two sets of animals called daddy long legs, the cellar spiders, or Pholcidae, and the harvestmen or opilionids, order Opiliones, which, although arachnids, are not spiders, order Araneae, as the have only one body segment and feed primarily off of decaying plants and animals, unlike spiders who are carnivores and always eat, or catch, live animals.
Fun fact- Daddy Long Legs are t actually arachnids and they do not produce silk. They are more closely related to a scorpion then they are spiders :)
“Aren’t” ahahhaa stupid autocorrect
A lot of people don’t actually seem to know this (because they have real lives and don’t have hours to waste looking up this junk) but spiders, scorpions, harvestmen, ticks, mites, and solifuges are all arachnids. Arachnids are really just creatures that have eight appendages, are typically carnivorous and generally live on land. Also the name “Daddy Long Legs” is actually often used to describe two different members of this group. One, also known as the harvestmen, is part of the Opiliones family and is NOT a spider but a harvestmen and is more closely related to scorpions than spiders. The other “Daddy Long Legs” spider is the Pholcidae, also known as the Cellar Spider, which is a true spider and produces very ugly messy webs. The one way to tell the difference between the two is that Cellar Spiders have two body segments (an “8” shape) whereas harvestmen have a single body segment (an “O” shape).
Today,as i checked the mail, i noticed a web and a spider in the back of the mailbox. I really didn’t put much thought into it. Since the mail hadn’t come yet, i checked it again a few hours later. I received a small package along with a few envelopes that i had placed under my armpit as i was walking inside. As i was walking through my home, I felt something crawling across my chest… it was the spider from my mailbox. I am pretty certain that this was sign from my spirit guide, as I had asked for a sign that she was there in between the times i had checked the mail.
i had two spiders cross my path in two days so i thought i see what the omen ment!
My niece had a dream about spiders. Her dream was, she was lying in bed next to someone that she cant see and then she sees a spider in the corner of the tin shed she was in and then she looked over to see me stand on the outside of the shed and I kill the spide. Then she sees a big spider and I pick it up and place it on her and then she gets a fright and wakes up. What does this dream mean.
