The spider as a spirit animal offers many interpretations. Its symbolism has both a dark and a light side, reflecting its connection with life’s many facets.
Spider spirit animal: Symbol of creativity
In many cultures, the spider is given credit for its ability to weave intricate webs that are a miracle of organic engineering. If you have the spider as an animal spirit guide, you may have an affinity with acts of creation and the ability to create delicate, intricate things or ideas that are also strong.
As the weaver of the web, the spider symbolizes the spirit of creation. In several traditions, she’s the totemic symbol of the Mother, strong feminine energy. In Ancient Egypt, the spider was used as a symbol to represent the goddess of the Divine Mother, Neith. In some American Indian tribes, it is considered as the symbol for the creator of the world and by extension is associated with the female creative energy.

Patience: The wisdom of the spider totem
Like the spider waiting her prey patiently, the presence of this spirit animal in your life could point to the need to show patience regarding a project or some ideas that you are trying to realize. Giving some time while paying attention to how events are unfolding and acting when the opportunity truly arise might be a lesson of wisdom from the spider spirit animal.
Symbolism of the spider: Life spirit and weaver of destiny
Just like the spider weaves her beautifully engineered web, this spirit animal fosters the integration of all parts and aspects of your life into a whole. When the spider shows up in your life, this spirit animal could guide you to integrate some piece of your personal “puzzle” and gain a more coherent perspective on your life.
The spider is a spirit animal whose purpose is to inspire you to gain perspective on an issue or project you contemplate taking on. Feel free to explore the many facets of the problem you are facing in order to find the appropriate solution. The power of this animal encourages you to count on your ability to view things from multiple angles and weave mental and intuitive flexibility into your daily thinking.
Spider spirit animals and your shadow self
If the spider shows up in your life, this spirit animal may remind you of negative aspects of your personality or your life that need to come to the light more fully. For many, spiders inspire fear or at least some form of aversion. As such, they tend to be associated with what psychologists would call “the shadow self”. In brief, your “shadow” or “shadow self” are aspects of your personality or your life that you or other people deem unworthy or not likable and are therefore rejected or repressed.
The spider as a spirit animal does not typically take on these negative attributes. Nevertheless, its presence in your life might bring up negative feelings or unease. Whenever you feel your relationship with your power animal is characterized by tension, discomfort or fear, you can ask yourself where these feelings also appear in your life. Look for any association with your personal feelings, even if it indirectly leads you to other areas of your life, such as work, family, or a relationship for instance.
Here’s another question to ask to interpret the meaning of the spider spirit animal and the guidance it offers: What kind of relationship or connection did you or did you want to establish with this animal? Was the spider threatening or harmful? Did you kill or harm it? The answer will indicate the kind of dynamic that is shaping up between you and what the spider represents.
Dreams: How to interpret spiders and spider spirit guides in dreams
The symbolism of the spider in dreams is generally associated with the archetype of the feminine. If the spider appears in your dreams as a spirit animal guide or as your totem, pay attention to the messages it’s offering to you: They are likely related to an important direction you’re taking in your life.
When you dream of spiders, chances are that it refers feminine energy in your life. This dream symbol could represents a woman you know or your own connection with qualities usually considered as feminine, such as receptivity, patience, creativity.
An important element to consider when you interpret the meaning of the encounter with the spider in your dream is the reaction and feelings you experienced at that time: Were you afraid? Or rather intrigued or fascinated? Was the overall atmosphere of the dream scary and stressful or enchanting, adventurous?
If you want to kill it, you might be repressing some feelings or trying to remove tension from your life. If it looks harmful or it is threatening to you, you may feel that some aspects of your personality or your life are not aligned with your highest interest or that you or your people around you are rejecting them. The spider in a negative dream could symbolize your fears or an adverse influence in your life.

I recently had a dream that I blew my nose and when I looked down into the tissue, there was a spider…only one.
I felt rather anxious and concerned that a spider had been up my nose. However, when I looked down at the spider, it seemed “at ease” with me, almost like it knew me really well…the spider started walking around a bit like it belonged there with me.
I’m not sure what this means…
Nice dream!
The spider represents subconscious aspects of you, that you have not known. It is being presented to you because you now are entering a new stage of awareness.
The spider represents yet unrecognized ways of how you create and manifest your own life.
Maybe you have unknowingly suppressed the knowledge that probably has presented itself to you before.
It may be personality traits you are about to recognize, but is more likely to be shadowed ways of “how you do” things, depending on what your taboos are. (Taboo meaning here, your personality-aspects, feelings or attitudes in you that you are not allowing yourself to befriend or be at peace with, and are surpressing your way of unfolding you -in your daily life.
Your feelings in the dream will point at the right direction of what it is.
Spiders operate in all dimensions of creation and is one of the most fundamental beings of matter, bridging matter and no-matter.
They cover wholeness – both darkness AND light. Community AND solitude sovereignty.
So being a calm, friendly spider coming out of your head – simply means you get to see more of your fundamental, creative self which in turn will release a wider way of understanding how you can liberate more of you, and live more freely/true to your self, and that you are ready to recieve. Good omen.
So the spider is a really forceful, blessed ally as a power animal, ar a totem animal for people containing much fear in general!
-I forgot to mention, this is only my interpretation of your dream, of course! Experience has shown me our own feelings in and towards our own dreams are the best guidelines for understanding them :)
In my dream i saw lots of spider webs in my home and i cleaned all of them but i didn’t killed them as a thought that its a sin. we have lots of rats in our house and i was trying to remove them from my house but i was just able to remove them from the rooms only. And a snake was there on our wall and going inside the wall hole, can you please interpret this.
Dr. Neha Sharma, My interpretation of your dream is thus:
In your home or in your life there is a lot of creative energy or opportunity to direct your life the way You want to. You have decided not to tap into your latent abilities or the many opportunities which have presented themselves. You are refusing to tap into your creative opportunities to direct your life because you are directed by your social, educational, moral and or spiritual teachings perhaps even your conscience. Or what you think is right and wrong.
Now these opportunities, should You take them will lead you to great financial wealth. You have not taken the opportunities that lead to wealth but you are unable to remove your ability to generate wealth, because the ability to do so is something that is latent, It is a natural skill or ability something you can do or know and which you can never be rid of ever.
Deep within, intuitively, you know what you are supposed to do but your socialization, education, moral sense and or background hinders you from achieving the great wealth and expressing your true purpose, and a great legacy.
Hope this helps.
Any dream I have involving spiders has had a negative feel to them. The most recent instance ended in me waking up and feeling seeing shadowy images of spiders skittering away from view and vanishing completely. What meaning does that withhold?
At the end of my dream I had a spider sitting very comfortably on the palm of my hand.
I was holding it and just looking at it. The spider was wet my hand had some water in it (just a little bit of water) but the spider seemed to be relaxed just sitting there. I was just looking at it, fascinated by the spider. Then I tough what if it bites me but I wasn’t afraid so I just realized she was just very comfy.
I wonder what this means.
I keep finding huge spiders in my bedroom. I am petrified of spiders and have gone so far as to put insecticide on my windows and the door but none the less they find their way in. Wonder if it had any meaning
Thank you for the post Elena it was a great read. It did not answer my question as such, however it brought about much clarity and appreciation. They say things come to you thru ghế frequency of thought..keep up the vibe :)11:11
My step mom, very much the mother i wish i had growing up, passed away last week. Since then, i found a female cardinal feather and ive been finding lovely spiders and their webs outside my apartment. Tonight there was an all black one in my kitchen that ran over my foot. It didnt bite when i kicked my foot to get it off. Any insight?
I dreamed that my dead half sisters mother put a brown on top and black on the bottom tarantula in my mouth and she was laughing at me. I stood there frozen shakeing and crying begging her to take it out. What dose this me. By the way me and my sister dont see eye to eye on alot of things.

When I was little, I was fascinated with Daddy Long Legs; my father had told me the old wives tale that their mouths were too small to bite humans, as he thought it was true.
Because of that, all throughout my childhood, I would pick up any I saw and hold them for hours. Even kept one as a “pet” once in an open tank for a few days. They never once tried to bite me, and though they walked around on my hands, they never tried to get away from me. I always thought that maybe they were like dogs and could tell I wasn’t afraid of them and thus wasn’t a threat, but now I’m not so sure. I’ve always lived by small fields and “woods” that aren’t actually woods but more so just a thick patch of trees you can see through, so seeing spiders inside was a regular occurrence.
Right at this moment, there are 3 on my bathroom ceiling that just move around and never bother me. I’ve gotten to the point where I only try to catch and release them outside or kill the harmless ones whenever they’re way too close to me (although I’ve never been afraid of them, I now hate the feeling of them being on me, to me it’s like nails scratching a chalkboard.)
The poisonous ones are the only ones I don’t feel guilty about killing, because I know my grandma (she’s paralyzed) is more likely to be bitten than me as she can’t get them off of her, much less see them on her in the first place. The harmless ones I kill are only harmed because if I don’t, my cat will end up killing himself trying to get to them on the ceiling.
Wolf spiders seem to be particularly fond of me, I’ve found more than 10 in the last two months. If anybody actually read all of this and have any idea why that could be, please let me know. Thank you! c:
I have been physically attracting spiders for several years. It doesn’t matter where I am. It is not a matter of infestation when it happens wherever you you travel. Friends & family houses’ asside, I had it happen 3 weeks ago in my Heath Clinic. The Dr commented that he never sees them there & it was a pleasant change to see life in the stark building. I was annoyed & thinking this spider thing was getting out of hand but slowly started accepting they will show up anyway. One week later, I had a 3 day hospitalization(different town). I was in a sterile environment recovering from a complicated hysterectomy & somehow one showed up on my “rolly tray thing”. When I got home still spiders galore. I killed one spider in particular, after felt guilty. The next day same place an identical one showed up. It freaked me out b/c it was like it’s ghost or something. Idk. I was so freaked out I killed that one too. Then when to take a shower got out to dry off nothing there & turned around & there was a sizable spider in the middle of my floor that seemed agitated. I killed him to b/c I felt he jumped me…but still felt guilty. That was late last night. That got me thinking there is some spirit significance to spiders showing up. Somehow my search led me here & it makes sens Even though spiders aren’t animals, I finally stubbornly believe. Especially when the Dr made the comment about them rep life and my surgery was hysterectomy. ..As female as you can get when it comes to surgeries. I got to meditate on this more. Looking back when I lived in a Bulgaria I awoke one night to find a giant spider above my bed. It was like a tarantula but was really black and had longer legs. I still don’t know what kind that was, maybe it was a tarantula, could have been a neighbor’s escaped pet…Anyhew bottom line is that I believe they can have spiritual significance and I won’t kill them anymore.
