When lion spirit animals warn about challenges
This spirit animal could point to one of your weak spots or a difficult situation you’re experiencing. The lion animal spirit guide is perhaps showing you the way to deal with the issue and keep going with the courage it also embodies.
Lions could also represent an authority that may feel overpowering or a conflicting relationship with power and authority. When you see a lion as a spirit animal, it could symbolize external power, authority, forces that dominate or rule parts of your life. For instance, if you dream about a scar or threatening lion, it may remind you that you need to deal with an overbearing boss, partner or teacher in your waking life.
Lion spirit animal, symbol for anger & personal struggle
Seeing your lion spirit animal could be an invitation to control your temper or your moderate aggressive impulses. For instance, observe if you could really listen to what people have to say before striking back at them. Or explore how to express your needs or anger more openly and constructively to reduce your level of frustration.
If you are dreaming of being chased by a lion, it may represent a situation that brings about personal struggle. Common dream scenarios with threatening lions are as follows: A lion suddenly appears in your dream. You feel threatened by this wild animal known for devouring its prey with no mercy. The lion is now preying on you. You’re trying to escape, but it is still behind you, chasing you like you’re about to get devoured.
Dream interpretation: Being chased by a lion
This lion dream scenario is classic. Dreaming of being chased by a lion is one of the most common themes featuring this creature in the dream world. The lion chasing you generally connects to the struggle the dreamer is experiencing regarding feelings of anger or aggression in waking life.
The dream about your lion spirit animal could point to anger you may feel towards someone or aggression that is directed at you. Being chased by a lion in a dream could be a warning from your animal totem that you’re struggling with these feelings and how to express them. The lion totem could mean that you’re having difficulties dealing with a situation where someone is mean or aggressive with you.
Scary dreams about lions
Terrorized by your lion dream?
This kind of dream is expressing in strong images what you actually feel within. The meaning of your lion dream is symbolic and likely represents the intense psychological or emotional tensions you are experiencing in your waking life. Dreaming about a lion in this way is an invitation to examine what’s happening in your life that is causing tension and despair.
Most likely, you’re facing a challenging situation or behavior that is hard to comprehend at a conscious level and the lion appears as a spirit animal to help. It may be too hard to deal with or seem unacceptable to you and therefore is rejected out of your awareness, a bit like a protection, a defense mechanism. The presence of your lion spirit animal could be a warning to pay attention to a situation or person who’s creating worries or concerns for you.
On a positive note, a terrifying lion is likely indicating that you’re in the process of becoming more aware of the issues at hand. It works as a reminder that whatever is bothering you in your waking life needs to come out in the open to be dealt with. Bring forth the courage that lion totems symbolize.
Lion spirit animals in dreams: When the lion bites you
A lion that bites you in your dream could be a warning from your spirit animal and signify that you’re feeling overwhelmed in your waking life. The source of worries could be about feelings you or someone else may have or a situation that is particularly challenging. The image of the lion bite is a strong call to look at what’s going on in your life that could feel threatening or dangerous before it really “bites” you.
Another interpretation of such lion dream is to ask yourself what is dominating your life these days and see if you can bring more balance.
Scary images of lion spirit animals and the “shadow self”
When you are scared by the presence of your lion spirit animal, whether it’s in dreams or in waking life, this could be an invitation to look at your “shadow self”. The shadow self is a part of yourself that you prefer to keep “in the shadow” or the dark. In other words, a part of yourself you would hide or reject because it’s not likeable, you or other people think it’s unacceptable, not worthy, etc.
Your spirit animal indicates the need to look at these aspects of yourself and resolve the tensions inner conflicts may create. For instance, by just starting to acknowledge parts of your “shadow self”, looking at them, perhaps understanding what they are about, what they are connected with, you can start bringing a better understanding of yourself.

I dreamed about a large black lion. He came up on me from out of no where. He startled me but was not aggressive.I did not know what he was about to do but he started licking my left hand, at one point my whole hand was in its mouth. He was walking along beside me. As the dream continued I put him in the car with me to go and pick someone up. When I arrived everyone was scared and I pet the lion, scratching its head and belly as I do with my dogs, showing them that it was ok. Then I woke up.
I dreamed a lion was watching me through my bedroom window. My bed was pulled up along side the window. The screen on the window was broken and he could have entered at any time to devour me but didn’t. He just stared at me. This was in my childhood house. I called out to my sister for help but she couldn’t hear me because her bedroom door was closed. I woke up calling out my sisters name saying “Cathy, help me”……
My dream was a possible end of world occurring where we were all preparing for what lay ahead. First in a nice high rise building. Next I was checking outside area where my marriage had ended in real life. In the laneway at the back I saw Aslan lion sitting, I was on one side of fence on a mound of miscellaneous shed and garden items and tarpaulin. I was above him aware of his immense power. But we were friendly. In my waking life my tiny Russian Blue kitty is slowly passing away from cancer. She’s 15 in a few weeks.
I was talking to Aslan and he was calming and friendly. I told him I’d better get going and figure things out. My ex husband has been contacting me more because his life has changed. And our daughter is in her first home with long term partner. I feel I can not trust my ex because he’s on anti-psychotic medication though very successful. It could be him the lion.
In the garden as I turn towards the house a tigress is slowly waking up under a tarp, could be his second wife whom he’s seperated from recently, because they got together in that house a month after I left.
It was hard getting past her before she woke up because she’d definitely kill me. I did get past her and it was so intense I woke up.
I dreamed that I was standing outside of my old farmhouse. My ex husband approached. I opened the door to walk inside of the house and a huge, lion approached. I barely made it inside as I was struggling to shut the door on the lion trying to get in. As I closed the door, my ex was banging on the door trying to get in, but I couldn’t let him in because the lion was right there. I heard the lion ripping him to shreds. I opened the door to a very grotesque bloody scene. Police arrived wanting to blame our flock of turkeys for his death, but I insisted it was the lion. They didn’t believe me.
Wow. This is a first for me. In the early morning of July 6th. I dreamt I was on a highway and didn’t know where I was going. I pulled of to get directions and was in the home or what seemed to me a home. And there were many people, I’m not sure if they were visiting or passing thru, at any rate I preceded to go up stairs and was greeted by an old lady that appeared to only have one eye, out of no where I biggest most beautiful lion appeared. I was not afraid but startled. I proceeded in and again there was the lion standing to my right. As the old lady directed me to a door that led me back outside I I couldn’t help but notice she had
several different animals that she appeared to be healing or housing. As I turned to leave I asked if I could come back, she nodded and replied yes anytime you’d like. This has been the most beautiful dream to an end that I’ve ever had.
I had a dream I was watching two huge white male lions, one stayed off to the perimeter, never coming close. The biggest of the two were on the heels of a large whites female wolf. He followed close, no matter where she went. She stopped in front of me and stared. She wasn’t afraid at all. The huge male sat really close, behind her, he put his big head over his shoulder and looked at me for only a moment. Then he closed his eyes. She still watched me…..what does it mean ?
Thi is so much on target. It described the exact situation as I go through now. Amazing! Thank you for this.
I dreamt that I was in a room, and the window was open and a lion jumped in through the window and then pounced on me, face to face while I was standing up and I was backed up against a column. The lion was a male, and he didn’t seem like he wanted to hurt but was acting like a giant kitten and I used my right hand to stop his mouth but I was so terrified by him and what he might did next in the dream I woke myself up.
I have a dream whereby me and my mom were being chased by the lions, we manage to run fast and they never reach or catch us . I really want to know what is the meaning of this dream since I never saw a lions in my life
The only scary dream I have had of a lion was when I was very young. I dreamed about a male lion with a massive mane almost every night. He would always sit on his haunches & watch me. The scary dream was when he opened his mouth, roared, & enveloped my head with his mouth. He did not bite me, but he sat still with my head inside his mouth for several seconds. Then he opened his mouth & removed it from my head. It was terrifying that he did that, but every night after that, he would always sit in front of me & never left me. I eventually learned, as an adult, that he introduced himself to me as my spirit animal guide. He was very supportive during a time when I was very confused by abuse I experienced from a parent. He is still with me & I am forever grateful that he has always been there for me, in a way no human could ever be. I have a tendency towards cats & the cats I have lived with over the years always seemed to understand me in ways that humans have not comprehended. Interesting connection to the lion, the King of the Animals.
I dreamnt i was walking in our street and suddenly the lions appeared right in front of me.I was scared i didn’t know what to do,so i decided to go back home.On my way home the lions started following me.The male lions started showing aggression.I was protected by the female lions that walked home with me.
I was with children..
In the woods…we came upon a lioness
Sleeping on an incline.
I gathered the young ones…
And then a male lion circled behind us
Roaring moderately- giving warning….
He ran towards the lioness
We found shelter
