Cat Spirit Animal
Cat Symbolism
The cat carries many meanings revolving around the balance between seemingly opposites, such as inner and outer, action and rest, light and dark. It’s strongly symbolic of the connection with what usually hides in darkness or the unknown. The cat generally represents:
- Patience, waiting for the right moment to act
- Independence, yet enjoying social connections
- Spirit of adventure, courage
- Deep, relaxed connection with self
- Healing from the inside out
- Curiosity, exploration of the unknown or the unconscious
Let’s remember that the cat as we know it today mostly as a domestic animal was not a common animal for the American Indians. It was introduced by the European settlers and therefore is not part of the original totemic traditions. Nevertheless, cat symbolism has pervaded many ancient and modern cultures around the world. One of the most well-known is the worship of the cat in ancient Egypt. Nowadays, the cat is often part of our ordinary life and an inspiring animal totem for many of us.
“Cats, as you know, are quite impervious to threats.”

Cats and exploration of the unknown
Cats tend to be active at night and are able to see in the dark thanks to their highly adaptable eyes. Because they can be seen roaming around at night, they are associated in several cultures with the realm of the darkness. By extension, the cat has been considered as a symbol or representative of witchcraft and dark magic arts, especially if its color is black!
Another way to see the meaning of the cat as a spirit animal or totem is to pay attention to its ability to see in the dark and be at ease when most other animals and humans are not. If the cat shows up in your life as a spirit guide or you have this animal as totem, you may be inclined to start exploring areas in your life or aspects or yourself that you do not know well yet.

Cat totem wisdom: Acting when the time is right
The cat spirit animal is a good helper for those who need to find the courage to tackle lingering problems or concerns. The cat is known for being a great hunter using not just force, but a refined sense of timing in the moment of the attack. It seems to follow its prey and be able to patiently wait and position itself until it catches it.
By affinity with this feline, those who have the cat as a spirit animal may be able to tackle issues with patience, confidence, and a good sense of timing in their actions. The wisdom of the cat totem lies in the ability to remain quiet, observe, and then act when the time is right, so you’re better positioned to reach your goal and preserve your energy even in moments of tension and action.

The cat totem: A call for independence
The cat is emblematic of a lifestyle that combines times of fierce independence and moments that are more social and cuddly. Being inspired by the cat’s spirit, you may foster the balance between your personal need for freedom and time alone with the company of others and social activities.
You may be called to bring more balance between your social life, whether it’s in your family, work or school, and time alone. The cat spirit animal could also encourage you to find a way of exploring your inner truths, as well as mystical truths, without sacrificing the connections you have with the rest of your environment.
Dreaming About Cats
Dreams are our subconscious minds communicating to us using the language of symbols. While some traditions think that a dream of a cat is a bad omen, this meaning is loosing favor in our more modern times. Dreams of cats have more often come to symbolize your feminine essence and sensuality. Dreams about cats may also be a message to tap into your inner mischievous and mysterious nature. A black cat in your dreams may be telling you to pay attention to your intuition. As far back as the ancient Egyptians and possibly farther, cats have been believed to be able to travel between dimensions. Is there a message from another dimension here for you?

Im sort of new here. Almost every night I go for a walk and sometimes I see a black cat crossing paths with me which is strange and then this morning when I was walking to my bus stop, I saw the same cat in front of me then ran before I could get close but while I was walking, or eyes met for a little. I did some researcher and found this site along with other things that are interesting and mysterious. I actually tried to summon my spirit animal last night which was strange and I didn’t see the cat for a while but for hi to just appear the next day out of the blue like that is very both confusing and interesting. So does this mean that the cat is my spirit animal?
our, not or

I had an intense dream about being lost in a storm and finding a beautiful black cat. I remember him so vividly like he was a dear friend.. the cat had piercing yet sensitive sweet yellow eyes. The cat was like my twin flame.. he was me, and I was him… and even creepier.. a person that had come into my life a few days later posted the cat from my dream on facebook…. she had found the black cat from my dreams. I got to meet the cat in real life and he was just as he was in my dream… Sometimes I have the weirdest coolest dreams that collide with reality.
I had a dream where I got a phone call saying he’s here get ready ( meaning Jesus) I’m by far a religious person, spiritual yes. In my dream Jesus was taking all the children to heaven as they, I looked to the left I guess and seen a wall of fire passing these people as they ran and the flames came up to my balcony this white cat jumps down struts over and says you have to burn the flesh to cleanse the sole, so I jumped and in my dream I opened my eyes with people around me and my daughter running down stairs laughing and happy! Cat…… definitely my totem!
I renembered mt past dream about an orange cat which I hated for he was stealing our foods everytime,he was very angry to me and was yelling with his eyes focused on me and started to bit me in my lower thigh. What was that mean?
The dream coincidentally occured with my neighbor’s nightmare…
That cat was once bonded to me…
And now I have my new tabby cat with me…
I don’t know what happened to him after I’ve seen him with another as years passed…
This happened earlier this month. There was a cat in my yard and i was having an argument with one of my relatives. It sat there in the pit of the night. it always seems to appear when I’m having an argument with my self or a relative. One night I saw it get on top of another car parked in my yard. The window is broken and it’s an old interceptor, it looked down inside the car as if something was there. Does this have any meaning?
I own a black cat with my family, but it likes me more than anyone else. Every time i’m with my family somewhere else more than a day, and when we come back, he always runs to me, he doesn’t even look to the others. I usually hang on my bed, so when i go to hang there, he comes running to me and purrs loudly. Does that mean something or is it just normal? And usually even if i’ve been at home a lot, he still is around me a lot. We have a strong bond.
Sorry if my english is bad, my first languange isn’t english. :)
But I like cats very much and I’ve always wanted more. Few months back I was helping cats at animal rescue shelter, and I loved it there.
Hey guys I’m Salem, and I was wondering if I was a cat or some other animal. First off, I usually feel like a meek creature, shy and silent in nature, but wish to release my power and show that I am strong. I am also a very curious creature, intent of discovering everything I can, which contributes to my adventurous side. I wish to be a nomad, though I am tied to home at the time being. If I could, I would take my bags, and go straight for the mountains, even in the cold weather. When I am home with my friends (which are few, but close) I gain a sense of protectiveness over them, and I care deeply about them. I would say this makes me a guardian of some kind. When I am home alone, I gain a spirit to draw and express creativeness, and once in awhile study something, a topic such as history or astronomy. I am deeply intrigued in the sky and storms, including stars, yet I am also curious with plants and their properties of healing and mental alteration. Would you say I relate to a cat, or some other animal of a kind?
Also, I deeply believe in helping others and hold high morals. Though I am greatly pessimistic, constantly fighting to be optimistic. I am stuck in a middle to be honest, pessimistic yet optimistic.
