Spider spirit animal: Symbol of creativity
In many cultures, the spider is given credit for its ability to weave intricate webs that are a miracle of organic engineering. If you have the spider as an animal spirit guide, you may have an affinity with acts of creation and the ability to create delicate, intricate things or ideas that are also strong.
As the weaver of the web, the spider symbolizes the spirit of creation. In several traditions, she’s the totemic symbol of the Mother, strong feminine energy. In Ancient Egypt, the spider was used as a symbol to represent the goddess of the Divine Mother, Neith. In some American Indian tribes, it is considered as the symbol for the creator of the world and by extension is associated with the female creative energy.

Patience: The wisdom of the spider totem
Like the spider waiting her prey patiently, the presence of this spirit animal in your life could point to the need to show patience regarding a project or some ideas that you are trying to realize. Giving some time while paying attention to how events are unfolding and acting when the opportunity truly arise might be a lesson of wisdom from the spider spirit animal.
Symbolism of the spider: Life spirit and weaver of destiny
Just like the spider weaves her beautifully engineered web, this spirit animal fosters the integration of all parts and aspects of your life into a whole. When the spider shows up in your life, this spirit animal could guide you to integrate some piece of your personal “puzzle” and gain a more coherent perspective on your life.
The spider is a spirit animal whose purpose is to inspire you to gain perspective on an issue or project you contemplate taking on. Feel free to explore the many facets of the problem you are facing in order to find the appropriate solution. The power of this animal encourages you to count on your ability to view things from multiple angles and weave mental and intuitive flexibility into your daily thinking.
Spider spirit animals and your shadow self
If the spider shows up in your life, this spirit animal may remind you of negative aspects of your personality or your life that need to come to the light more fully. For many, spiders inspire fear or at least some form of aversion. As such, they tend to be associated with what psychologists would call “the shadow self”. In brief, your “shadow” or “shadow self” are aspects of your personality or your life that you or other people deem unworthy or not likable and are therefore rejected or repressed.
The spider as a spirit animal does not typically take on these negative attributes. Nevertheless, its presence in your life might bring up negative feelings or unease. Whenever you feel your relationship with your power animal is characterized by tension, discomfort or fear, you can ask yourself where these feelings also appear in your life. Look for any association with your personal feelings, even if it indirectly leads you to other areas of your life, such as work, family, or a relationship for instance.
Here’s another question to ask to interpret the meaning of the spider spirit animal and the guidance it offers: What kind of relationship or connection did you or did you want to establish with this animal? Was the spider threatening or harmful? Did you kill or harm it? The answer will indicate the kind of dynamic that is shaping up between you and what the spider represents.
Dreams: How to interpret spiders and spider spirit guides in dreams
The symbolism of the spider in dreams is generally associated with the archetype of the feminine. If the spider appears in your dreams as a spirit animal guide or as your totem, pay attention to the messages it’s offering to you: They are likely related to an important direction you’re taking in your life.
When you dream of spiders, chances are that it refers feminine energy in your life. This dream symbol could represents a woman you know or your own connection with qualities usually considered as feminine, such as receptivity, patience, creativity.
An important element to consider when you interpret the meaning of the encounter with the spider in your dream is the reaction and feelings you experienced at that time: Were you afraid? Or rather intrigued or fascinated? Was the overall atmosphere of the dream scary and stressful or enchanting, adventurous?
If you want to kill it, you might be repressing some feelings or trying to remove tension from your life. If it looks harmful or it is threatening to you, you may feel that some aspects of your personality or your life are not aligned with your highest interest or that you or your people around you are rejecting them. The spider in a negative dream could symbolize your fears or an adverse influence in your life.

makes sense. I have always found spiders interesting rather than scary. Once in class a house spider jumped on a desk next to mine, everyone freaked out and ran out of the room. I just kinda sat there and said hi to the spider and went on with my work. then the teacher killed it.. i was sad. I also had a “pet” spider in another class it was no bigger than this > . he was tiny and named bill. suits that my zodiac is also an arthropod.
Perspective changes everything.
I agree with you that has happend a few times too. Once there was a husman spider in the stadium and I went up to the spider and tried to pick the little guy up to put outside where the spider belongs. Then one of the boys came along and squished the pour spider, the husman could of had a happy life I just hate people who don’t like some thing and they just kill it and maybe in the future spiders could be our friends like a lot biger and knowing the diffrents between friend and food. Back to the happy stuff once there was a husman spider on the bus and ever one moved to the other side of the bus and I went to pick up the spider and taken it off the bus. That’s was I have to say also it’s handy to know your spider species so you know it’s not going to kill you. Please replie
I just dreamed of a morphing spider – one who changed from a little thing, then a larger one, then into a dog-spider, biting people in its path,. I put it outside and when I asked for help, I was met with resistance, AND the spider-dog was huge and viscious. It then changed into a spider and man, looking to bite and suck the blood out of everyone. It captured a woman outside. Shoved her into a white van, and murdered her in front if me by striking her skull open with a sharp, long, metal tool. Blood was everywhere. I couldn’t help. It then came for me and with powerful strength ripped the door off its hinge and grabbed me. I was screaming for help. And woke up. Hmmm….very scary. I am going through a lot in life right now, lots of change. I just hate these murder dreams where they are so real. What does all this mean?
I dreamed about spiders last night. They were crawling out of my skin. I was not afraid. I was freaked way the heck out!! I couldn’t get them all out of my skin. They just kept crawling out of gashes in my skin on my arms and legs. Normally I am not afraid of spiders, not a big fan of them but still not afraid. I like to see the dew on their webs in the morning – I think that is very pretty. BUT not crawling out of my skin…
What does this mean?????
Lol, the irony! I’m a child of Athena, we’re supposed to fear spiders XD (although I am not arachnophobic)
I dreamt of spiders stuck in a plastic display box,I ran to grab and save them before someone stepped on them. I grabbed them and saw the word venemous on the base of container. I wanted to free them from ignorance. People fear what they do not understand.I’m buying a home, my patience is something I require help with.I love all of Gods creations as they all serve a purpose. That is my belief.
And how false you have been in reality bloody pretentious blatant liar.
I dreamed an big spider. I took a nife and kill tje spider. When i woke up, i was all in tears.
I dreamed I was the giant spider! HUGE! Pulling everyone towards me, with my gigantic front legs! Just tucking everyone under me.
I’m terrified of Spiders yet my totem is definitely a spider. I see them hanging from the ceiling fans etc ( visions not real ones) and freak. I dream about them all the time, I have come to accept they are a warning/ appear when I am very stressed/ upset. My shadow self, the darker aspect of me, is huge but as I’m married and my in laws are lovely, normal and middle class I have to repress these darker sides of me. The spider appears when I need to unleash to banish stress and let myself go.
I am terrified by spiders, but don’t want to hurt them, just for them to be removed.. I want so much not to be scared, but I struggle with their presence as I associate them with abuse …I would love to find a way past this…
Good afternoon!
I have always loved spiders. I went to an art exhibit where an artist who was also frightened of spiders created huge paper sculptures to get over her fears.
One of my very favorite spiders is the garden spider that weaves the huge webs. They have a yellow and black pattern on their back.
Spiders are amazing acrobats, engineers and architects. They are very sensitive to any movement on their webs.
Think of the beauty of the web. I love seeing them with some dew. They are magical to me. Think of the spider as magical. Look at it with wonder.
If there is a nature center, ask them if they have any spiders that won’t be scary to show you.
Be very loving to yourself in this process. Be very patient with yourself. Take your time in facing this fear. You will discover a strength within yourself that you may be afraid of, which is why spider is frightening you.
In Roald Dahl’s book, James and the Giant Peach, a apider was one of Jim’s friends.
Do you like the book, “Charlotte’s Web?” This children’s book is the most popular…
Let the child in you explore the wonder of spiders. Re-read Charlotte’s Web if it has been a long time.
Be very loving to yourself as you begin this process.
My best wishes for you,
Dianna
I understand. Have you ever looked into emotional release therapy? What you are describing sounds like a phobia to me. Would that be accurate? If so, there is a way to quickly eliminate it and let go. Let me know if this interests you. Many blessings to you!
I find it surprising you associate them with abuse: Was there a personal experience? Otherwise compared to most of the other animal totems they should be one of the least abusive: Instead of relying on force they have to trick their prey with intelligence by building a trap and fairly quickly killing it with poison in compare to other predators who sometimes have to hunt it down and slaughter it. I think many people are naturally repelled by insects because of their tiny frail bodies: their poison reputation, either killing it by accident and having squashed bugnasty on you or that its trying to crawl into your bodycavities. They might not be beautiful by human standards but despite their sticky housing-hassle they help cleaning out a lot of insects that would otherwise roam your home. :) Maybe it helps you a bit with your fear if you try to “study” them with facts, documentaries and trivas
I too, am terrified of spiders- A number of years ago, I TRULY asked the current of earth to be over this fear… For the next couple of months, every time I took a hike or… I ended up taking a web or two/three in the face or body– this is an APOCOLYPSE, I know, per every hike. Because I wanted to be TRULY over this fear, when it happened, something set in, and I rationally would remove the webs, (and sometimes small spiders) and move on. I was okay with spiders for a long while after that- WITH RESPECT TO THEM all the same. I hope this helps… good luck- they are predators to insects, and us humans occasionally get hit in the flux of life; often for a greater lesson. A lot like shark-bites.
I dreamed of a giant spider being attacked by many smaller ones which consumed all its legs, I felt sad. A simultaneous dream with this was in a forest filled with huge crocodiles, all the people were ignoring them & wandering around & I was shouting at them angrily & frustrated that they were in danger & would be eaten. I was standing on things to avoid the crocs. Neither were scary. More sad really.
I dreamed the same thing ! Except it was add on that, after they covered the biggest they created larvas, started webbings all of the place etc… in the end i just fell in all that mess of things
For the first time in my life that I have looked up a spiritual animal, the spider is the only one that really has the same personal feelings that I deal with everyday, such as feeling dark, depressed, sad, and finally cofused. I thought that I would never actually have a dream about spiders , but one night I did and It was where I was on a train and there were spiders everywhere and I felt scared, fascinated, happy, and a bit creeped out.
Wow! For the past two weeks I’ve felt like I’m being stalked by spiders! It started when I was laying out by a waterfall and a giant wolf spider was on my blanket, staring me in the face when I opened my eyes. Then there was a daddy long legs crawling down my arm when I was driving. One was coming up my bath towel as I was drying off. Another making a nice big web above when I sit on my porch. One even stung down in front of my meal the other night. I swear it was like Little Miss Muffet! My life is upside down right now and finding this information has definitely helped give me some perspective. Thank you =)
