The spirit of the bear as healer and teacher
Interestingly, in Siberia, the name used to designate women shaman is the same as the word “bear”. In Northern America, in the Inuit tradition, the bear spirit animal is also connected to the shamanic tradition and women.
For the Inuit people, the bear is a strong power or totem animal. In some beliefs, it is said that if an Inuit hunter accepts to be eaten by a bear, he may reincarnate as a shaman and carry the spirit of this animal. The polar bear is considered as the “Wise Teacher” as it shows how to survive in harsh conditions.
The bear, an ancient spirit animal worshiped in many traditions
The bear as a spirit animal or totem is one of the most ancient worshiped animals. Remains of bears have been found in many archeological sites in Europe especially, where bear bones and skulls were found together with human bones dating back to the Neanderthals.
It is said that the Vikings would wear bear skins in times of war to scare off their enemies. They would appear as powerful as these wild animals. Bears symbolize warrior spirit and courage to fight. The bear’s spirit would be invoked to help the warriors in the battle.
In ancient Greece and Rome, the bear was a totem animal associated with the Goddess Artemis and Diana, goddesses of fertility. In contrast, for the Celts, the bear would represent the sun.
The spirit of the bear and healing
Since the bear is often associated with shamans in many traditions, this spirit animal can symbolize healing abilities and stepping into the role of the healer. If the bear shows up in your life, it may also be time to take care of your own needs for healing, whether it’s at the physical, emotional or spiritual level.
Be sensitive to where you are at and reflect on where you would most need healing. You can call on the bear spirit guidance to direct your energy in a more conservative or focused way.
Bear spirit animal and grounding forces
The bear is an animal that lives a solitary life. Having a bear as a spirit animal can mean that you find balance and comfort in solitude. The presence of this power animal could point to the need to “regroup” and set up boundaries, so you feel comfortable in your own space. It may be a call to find time away from the crowd or busyness and favor quiet time and rest.
The bear spirit can also be a great helper to dedicate time and energy to more introspective practices, such as self-inquiry or meditation. Call on the spirit of the bear to help you find your center and ground yourself in a strong foundation that will support you in more busy and noisy times.
Dreaming About Bears
Dreams are our subconscious minds communicating to us using the language of symbols. Dreaming of bears (or a bear) symbolizes power, strength and protection of yourself or possibly your family. If the bear in your dream is hibernating, it may indicate a need for solitude and to get away. If the bear is dancing, it indicates good luck (or you are having flashbacks of one of those many past Grateful Dead shows you went to). If a bear is chasing you, it may mean that you are avoiding a big situation in your life and it is time to take a stand and deal with it. Bear showing up in your dream may also be a message that it is time to show your power to the world.
Meditation to connect with the bear spirit animal
Close your eyes and find a comfy place to sit or lie down. Breathe slowly and deeply, in through your nose and out through your mouth. Feel the air fill your lungs, then release it – feel any tension leaving your body.
Now imagine that you are in the forest, relaxing on a moss-covered rock by a babbling brook. A large bear emerges from behind a tree, walking cautiously toward you. It sniffs you gently, then moves a little closer and begins to circle around you. Sensing its curiosity and hesitation, you reach out your arm cautiously to stroke its velvety-soft fur.
As the bear moves closer and cuddles up next to you, your heart opens and a wave of deep affection washes over you. You realize that the bear spirit animal is there to help guide and care for you, to ensure that your needs are met in loving support.
In this moment of connectedness, you feel the bear spirit’s strength and power. You also sense its warmth, gentleness and affection. It remains there for a while, helping you reconnect with your inner strength and express your love for yourself.
This spirit animal inspires you to be compassionate and to share love openly with yourself and with others. It shows you the importance of taking care of your needs, as well as supporting the needs of others in a balanced way.
It speaks of the importance of self-care, of taking the time to rest and rejuvenate. It encourages you to seek quiet time for self-reflection.
As you listen to the bear’s message, note any insights or feelings that arise.
Allow yourself to fully absorb the bear’s message and let it guide you on your journey. When you feel ready, slowly open your eyes. Take a deep breath in, and exhale slowly. Remember the bear’s message and take it with you as you go about your day.
An inspiring message from the bear
From the depths of the forest,
I, the bear, call out to you,
Inviting you to tap into your own inner strength,
And to delve deep within yourself to find understanding.
Let go of the worries that weigh you down,
And let my steady presence guide you
As you journey into the depths of your own soul.
Find solace in the stillness of nature,
And let the Earth ground you
As you seek to find clarity and purpose.
Do not be afraid to face your fears,
For I am with you always,
A reminder of your own inner power
And the courage to push through any obstacle.
So heed my call, dear one,
And let us walk this path together,
As you discover your true self,
And the strength that lies within you.

A short, short writing at Honey Bear in Seattle where my son manages this restaurant. This story just came out of me and I thought it was appropriate and after reading about the Bear as a Spirit Animal and this very spontaneous story I realized the Bear is my Spirit Animals. Thank you, Sh’mal
A hillside slopping down to a small pond. The birds, the bees, the fish all shared the space enjoying the water as it gently came streaming down from the hillside. Of course the deer and the raccoons were also regular visitors to the sandy shore. There was time though when all wasn’t so idyllic on the pond. A nearby factory began to spew toxic fumes and chemicals that caused a dire devastation to the fun loving and peaceful serenity in the pond and its wild life. After a short time many of the ponds guests began to demise from the spewing toxins.
One lady bear that sometimes, but occasionally, would come and enjoy herself to bath and splash around in the pond was devastated to see the demise of the ponds residents. She knew she could do something. She showed up at the town’s commission meeting expressing her dismay and anger that the city allowed such an injustice to happen to the pond and its residents. She didn’t like to get angry but felt the wrath swelling up inside of her and knew she had to get the attention of the commissioners. She did. They listened and showed remorse for their neglectful attention to the pond and those who lived in it and ordered the factory either to shut down or fix the toxins which came out of its smokestack.
After writing this I thought of the bear being me. Odd how sometimes writing takes absolutely no thought, just a flow of words coming from some place inside the writer.
i have this fucking spirit and it drives me crazy, please i need a help to control it , sometimes i become very angry in less than 3 seconds, a lot of women stare at me in publich and i don not have even a girlfriend, am alone and my friends started to have fearness and they want to keep me away.
i am 23 years old and have no expierience in social i just wanna learn how to sucsessfuly communicate.
the spirit is so strong in me that i can not feel myself normaly i have tried 2 years ago many times to kill myself .
I just found out I have the bear spirit… I thought for years I had a dragonfly one… My Dr also thinks I may have some bipolar going on… Maybe that’s what’s going on with you. Does bipolar run in your family? And do worry about the girlfriend thing, you just haven’t found the right one yet. I’m 43 and still haven’t found the right guy. I stay away from people that make me get angry and irritated. Not just cause its better for me emotionally, but them as well so I don’t say things I can’t take back.
Don’t not do…
My name is MeriLee Rossen Watne.. please find me on the FB.. i would like to help you understand your journey and be your friend. You’re never alone

Hi I do have bear spirit too like yours, bear like us are very strong in nature.
Don’t give up! You got that admiration from others that maybe you just need to search in other ground!
You’re still young, your life adventure is just about to begin!
Believe me patience is a virtue, there’s a lot more waiting for you out there!
Cheers!
Wow thats definitly a cry fot help. If you google thedgn.org (distance healing network), you can literally type in what type of healing you need (everyone needs help)and they “work on you” from a distance (since there is no srperation between time and space)… go to the “request healing” tab (first thing to the left that pops up) and type in “emotional and spiritual support” or what ever you want to say…
Sending you hope and healing. Bkessings

My 10 year old child encouraged me to do this quiz and am glad I did. This result is overwhelming.
I find it interesting that the bear is my spirit animal. I have always been drawn to helping or healing people and animals even from a young age. I have gotten to the point of where I think it is my calling in life as it’s what I know the most on and do the best. Be it as a former CNA for 25 years or using home herbal remedies to keep myself, my family and others healthy. It’s what I love doing.
I dreamed that 4 bear cubs were given into my care. What else could this mean?
i also just had a dream about 4 bear cubs with me. haven’t been able to find a specific meaning and i have no children. did you find anything?
Sounds to me like the two of you need to hook up. Look at the two symbols that supposedly came up for you two next to you names and comments, not random and there are no such thing as coincidence just meant to be. Very similar patterns except one is male an other female; jay cara I hope you connect if just to compare in more detail your dreams, may lead to more may not but definitely worth it to you both. Enjoy the journey ????
Its no the 1st dream of had of bears but this was the 1st dream I’ve had about a black bear. I was on a bus heading home when I noticed a polar bear walk passed the window then I looked across the road and a black bear was rubbing itself against the back of a lorry that was parked up (a bit like they do when there rubbing a tree) In doing so this triggered the lorry to start rolling forward (as though the handbreak had been left off) and it rolled down a steep hill causing a major accident with the pile up of other cars. I got off the bus and ran down to the accident pulling the injured out, I was instructing the ones that could walk to go up the hill to safety before I woke up. I would like to know what the meassage is about thanks
It’s showing you the effects of both good and bad in a particular animal guide, you were allowed to see that the very creature that causes the hurt can also be the very one that calls you to change your perspective.
Polar bear is the form of Great Spirit and the black bear is the rebellious spirit to do the work of hurt only to have you step into a role of leadership.
Here we can see that an accident was deterred by Great Spirit that was caused to injure you. Great Spirit is with you as the form of Ploar Bear!
Take great confidence in knowing you walk with Great Spirit and are protected from the plans of evil spirits.
I have this recurring dream. Where my mother and sisters are bears, i don’t think im one but im surrounded by them, i recognize them as my family… nothing much happens in this dream it varies from dream to dream. Nothing voilent though they’ve all been a fun experience… My friends at work call me bear a too. So i took your test and you guest it… im a bear i feel very comfortable with the bear as my totem.
I started to wonder if my spirit animal was a bear because I always see a black bear in my dreams. Unfortunately its never in a very nice way and there is always somthing violent going on. I have had dreams about wolves, but since I have more bear dreams I thought it might be my spirit animal. And my friends always said I reminded them of a mama bear.
I feel you require to take on the medicine f the bear and stand up for you you know is right. Believe that you have the warrior strength of the bear and this strength and belief will be respected.
Remember to take time for you to recoup your strength also and refresh your spirit by calling on the strength and knowledge of the bear while you meditate
I haven’t taken any quiz, yet. I happened upon this site, as a result of trying to find a spirit protector to go with a character I am writing for a story.
I met my spirit protector after I was married. After I was married I became drawn to wolves and wondered if my spirit protector could be the wolf. Then one night I had a dream of being led out of a forest, with a Grizzly Bear at the lead, then me and small woodland creatures lined up behind me. The bear led me to an open area that had a picnic table, benches and a tree stump. My husband, and a few of my closest family members were waiting for me. I sat down to visit with them and the bear sat on the tree stump. He proceeded to cross his forelegs over his chest and crossed his back legs like a person would do. He swung his foot up and down and about 30 minutes later he stood on all 4’s and walked over to me, signalling that it was time to go. We then returned to the forest in the same way we had arrived.
I had occasion to meet him in the late 80’s b4 I was married and had no idea it was my spirit protector. I stood up to a bully on someone’s behalf and my sister tried to pull me back when I started toward the bully. She had put her purse strap around my neck and was yanking as hard as she could. I remember trying to yank it away from her, yelling let go. The last time I roared it out and yanked hard, and blacked out. When I came to, the other kids were staring at me and I turned to behind me to ask my sister what everyone was staring at me for and she was not there. I turned back around and asked where my sister was. They pointed at my feet and there she lay knocked out. When I asked them about it, they told me that I yanked her clear over my head with her purse strap. To this day she still does not remember what happened that day.
I don’t like getting that angry, but I am glad to know that if I am ever in a situation that warrants it, that my spirit protector will give me the strength I need and has my 6.
i had a dream a woman in the forest turned me into a polar bear so i could feel my true form. then she told me to go for a run .the power i had in this form was amazing . i could feel the way the muscles worked as i ran and the weight of this form. i only slept a few hours that night but i awoke feeling rejuvenated like i slept all night.this is the short version of that dream.
I dreamt that a bear was chasing me with a red fox yanking at my jacket. It was quite vivid and i was like on this high fence to get away from the bear??
Would anyone please help with this?
It seems to me that the bear in ur dream was a irl situation that hd ur anxiety in overdrive and that ur subconscious was telling u that it was no more than a fox nipping at ur heels. It was telling u to slow down, take a deep breath and look at the situation thru calmer eyes.
I had a dream I was holding a white fish with a blue dot on it. I had a feeling of compassion for the fish. Then I was told I would be be taking care of a white bear cub, and I was very happy. I began to play with the bear cub.
I dreamt that while I was camping in Northern Ontario, I saw a bear fly across a lake to a far shore, joining a congregation of other bears. What does this dream mean?
Hmmm…Maybe it is saying that tho it is nice to be a loner, that sometimes it is best to let others near.
