Wolf Spirit Animal

Wolf Spirit Animal

By Elena Harris, SpiritAnimal.info Editor

The wolf offers some of the most striking animal meanings in the realm of spirit animals. The power of the wolf brings forth instinct, intelligence, appetite for freedom, and awareness of the importance of social connections. This animal can also symbolize fear of being threatened and lack of trust. When the wolf shows up in your life, pay attention to what your intuition is telling you.

What is the wolf spirit animal meaning?

In the spirit animal kingdom, the wolf symbolizes:

  • Sharp intelligence, deep connection with instincts
  • Appetite for freedom
  • Expression of strong instincts
  • Feeling threatened, lack of trust in someone or in yourself

Positive symbolism of the wolf spirit animal

Positive meanings emphasize a deep connection with your intuition and instincts. On the negative side, the wolf could represent a perceived threat or a lack of trust in someone or your own feelings or actions. This spirit animal also reflects sharp intelligence in dealing with important matters.

Wolf spirit and connection with instincts

When you have the wolf as a spirit animal, it could be an expression of your sharp intelligence and strong instincts. The wolf symbolizes a strong connection with instincts and when it appears as a animal spirit guide, it could point to a way of perceiving and understanding the world around you that works similarly.

Whether the wolf appears in physical form or in a dream or meditation, it may reveal that you’re using your instincts and intuition to grasp a situation well. The fact that your wolf animal spirit guide shows up could also be a call to use this capacity to deal with a recent challenge you’ve experienced in your life.

If the presence of the wolf feels threatening, pay attention to how your instinctual nature and raw emotions can jeopardize your balance or the balance of people around you. Your power animal may appear in such light to warn you about devouring instincts of those belonging somebody around you.

It is useless for the sheep to pass resolutions in favor of vegetarianism, while the wolf remains of a different opinion.

The dark side of the wolf spirit animal

The dark side of the wolf totem: Sensitivity about feelings of threat

A wolf totem animal can represent a perceived threat or feeling you are being threatened. The presence of this spirit animal could be a reminder of an event, situation or a person you feel threatened by.

The wolf could reflect something that may have a “predatory” feel to it and instill a feeling of vulnerability that is not reassuring. Encountering your spirit animal in such a way invites you to look at who or what in your life is having such an influence.

Perhaps your spirit animal is warning you about challenges with personal boundaries: You may feel you have exposed yourself too much with someone or in a certain situation and need to pull back or strengthen emotional or physical boundaries with that person or in the context of that experience. The wolf as a spirit animal could also remind you that you’re facing stiff competition at work or that the behavior of people around may feel like you have to deal with a “pack of wolves”.

The wolf as representation being guided or misguided by instincts

Since a common meaning for the wolf spirit animal emphasizes the role of instincts, having this animal as a guide or totem could point to your relationship with how you live your life, and more specifically how you trust or mistrust your instincts and intuitive guidance.

Check whether you feel threatened by your own instincts and feelings. The presence of your wolf power animal could reflect your inner emotional landscape and bring to your awareness your own feelings about a matter that is highly emotionally charged.

Dream interpretation of the wolf spirit animal

The dream meanings associated with the wolf point to powerful instincts or habits that could be experienced as aggressive or dominating by others. Wolves in dreams convey the energetic imprint of strong sexual energy or addictive behaviors of different kinds that would benefit from being kept in check.

If a woman dreams of a wolf in a nightmare or anxious dream, she may be getting in touch with anxiety relating to a male partner who may be pushing his sexual desires very strongly or pushing her boundaries. The intensity of the relationship can cause fear and be experienced as a threat that the wolf symbolizes in the dream.

If the dream has a positive tone or outcome, the wolf could be interpreted as a guiding symbol for trusting your instincts more or expressing them in a more balanced manner. If you have such a dream, ask yourself if you feel at ease and supported by your instincts, especially your sexuality or a partner’s sexual expression, or other types of “cravings” in your life.

As a little girl I was always attracted to wolves. I loved them so much. I drew them all the time, I even had one painted on my wall. I loved everything wolf related and often dreamt of being a wolf. In high school main theme of my drawings were girls with wolves. I never really knew about spirit animals. And now that I know, I finally realize how much in common I have with wolves. I’m an introvert and a loner, unemotional but instinctive, I preffer to observe. I can get really aggressive when angry. And the weirdest of all I am afraid of nights and especially dawns when there is no moon.

All of the stories are amazing. I have a sexual black wolf, has anyone experienced that? Two guys I have met over the past couple of days have showed interest in me. They both know I’m in a relationship. We started off chatting casual at work with all other co-workers. Then now they both let me know they want me. I’m not interested in one but the other tickles my fancy a little. So I went home didnt think about the situation went to sleep next to my man because we live together,& woke up overly aroused. My wolf was in half form of human,& there were 2. But one of them slowly eased his way toward me,I couldn’t move. I was trying to look away but I couldn’t,I wasn’t scared or nothing. He got close to me & disappeared in like a mist.I set up in the bed lost you know so laid back down, went back to sleep & boom the same dream. It’s very rare I wake up & go back to sleep dreaming the same dream but maybe it was heavy on my mind.So next the mist came over me & all I remember I woke up body sweating & hotter than fish grease. It was like I felt that man touching me.My boyfriend woke me up asking me am I ok & wiping my face.I looked at him & pounced him. After it was said & done he asked if I was ok again I said yes & why you know..he said I had never had it with him in that fashion.I didn’t seem like me. So now I’m nervous because I wonder if there some deep down desires I might have for that other guy. A black wolf always come to me when anything sexual happens or going to happen.Very nervous..

I looked this up specifically because I was gifted with the presence of a white wolf! on 9/11/01..the same day my 2nd child (and 7th pregnancy) was conceived. I’ve received many other animals since then, but that white wolf is a memory I can’t shake with the sbunda6of homemade spirit animals coming to me almost daily.I appreciate the information here, as it really resonates with me.The memory seems too important to ignore. Thanks.

I dreamt that wolves were coming into the house from behind my stove. One wolf in particular was relentless. He squeezed passed the stove and was mostly in my kitchen he was huge and all black with white whisps around his snout. I struggled with him, the entire time I wasn’t afraid but I knew that I had to get him under my control. So he lunged at me and went to bite my shoulder but as he did I bit his snout hard. He recoiled away and shrunk down on himself. He instantly became tame and lapped at my hands and feet.

I had a premonition awhile back when I was a young child.A Tundra Wolf appeared to me in a dream(didn’t find out it was a Tundra till much later in my life)It was my Spirit wolf telling me to learn as much as I can about Human life ,both good and bad so I can learn a balance,to be able to “Find the Truth” about things.About 50 years later,I was brought to a Wolf Sanctuary that desperately needed help, and the wolves themselves called for me.It took a Bull to run me over to truly heed this calling from God and my spirit guide, and my wolf family. This place is in Idaho, where they are under attack by corporate greed, and politics mostly brought on by Big Business, and those who fear the unknowing and are to lazy to find the truth themselves, but rather follow them like Lemmings off the side of a cliff. When I got here,I meet my Spirit Wolf, his name is Hontayo which means clear the way in Lakota.Funny he looks very similar to a Tattoo I got on my right shoulder,a cover up from a mistake I made in life, now I am the guardian of these majestic, mystical animals, that need protection from ignorant humans that want to control things they should not!

Can I have more than one spirit guardian animal? I have seen a white wolf throughout all my dreams, she has one blue eye, and one green one, she protects me, from everything, even gives me advice; last dream, she stood up to a pack of wolves to protect me. I also saw one dragonfly, just hover next to my window, and I have always loved butterflies, I haven’t seen much of them lately though.last night, I asked no one in particular, where they were, and a swallowtail showed up in front of my door in the morning. It had flown off, but came back, and just sat there.

Yes, you can have more than one spirit animal. I have two who stay in my life – my wolf and my crow. I have had others come around to help me through things, but none of them have stayed like my wolf and crow. 🙂

I was quite ill with a constant cough that a nasty bug had left me with and was on the point of seeing a doctor for antibiotics (which I am loath to do). I finally nodded off in bed, just around dawn and must have slept foracouple of hours. As I was waking I saw a Native American Indian with the brightest blue eyes that sharply looked right into me and he said to me”have some wolf medicine”. My cough has loosened noticeablyand I nolonger cough convulsively. The blue eyed Indian must have been a medicine man!

While a teenager I was walking home from High school thru a normal cut through the woods path. One day I was alone cutting through the path. At the end of the path was a white wolf looking dog staring at me. I wasn’t afraid after a few seconds. As I walked toward the white wolf looking dog slash end of the path it disappeared. I never saw it again or any trace of it.

When I was younger I was sleeping in my bedroom and woke up all of a sudden. Something told me to go to my front door leading to outside. So I walk downstairs from my bedroom and open our front door at the time. I see this white wolf (at least that’s how I remember it, but I also remember it being darker color which is weird)and around it had yellow glow around it. It had these yellow eyes. To be honest I just remember it having yellow eyes and it just staring at me. It was right at my door step. I know what I saw and I told myself pinch me I must be dreaming but I wasn’t. I saw a wolf at my door and it just pierced me down. It wanted me to follow it I felt it wanted me to follow it. At this point it was kind of moving away from my door. As soon as I got that feeling of me wanting to follow it I close the door and run back upstairs. Then I go back down two minutes later open the door again and it’s gone.

I recently became homeless on the street and was sleeping under trees. One night I sat in front of a lit building where I felt safe. Out of nowhere a wolf appeared. It was not a coyote. It walked directly in front of me, looked at me and walked on. I still csnt believe what I saw. Was it a Spirit…I don’t know. A message? I think so. I was was extremely afraid, angry and very sad.

My son woke up night after night, in a fear…saying ” mommy, puppy…puppy is under my bed” through further investigation, i was told that this puppy is infact a wolf and this wolf is there as protection for my son. Not long after, we snapped a photo of my son in his bedroom and the mess of baby powder he made. In that photo, you can see the profile of the wolf’s face. Amazing. More to the story of course but I need time to explain. What an amazing experience.

I was on a hike in Golden Gate Canyon State Park in Colorado. The whole time I was on guard and had a feeling I wasn’t alone. I decided to rest on a rock about 1/3 of the way up the mountain when I heard a large crash in the forest. Knowing it probably was a bear I packed up and headed back towards camp (Hiking alone without bear mace this trip) As I was packing up nature called and seconds later a wolf came running down the mountain and almost ran into me but corrected and kept running down. The wolf was followed by a mule deer and they both seemed quite spooked. It was my first time seeing a wolf in the wild. The wolf didn’t scare me whatsoever and reaffirmed my suspicion to head back to camp.

WOW! I was scared being on the street and alone, but never felt scared when I saw the Wolf. Actually it was at that moment I felt safe…
