- Patience
- Receptivity
- Feminine energy
- Creativity

- Shadow self, dark aspects of life or personality
The spider as a spirit animal offers many interpretations. Its symbolism has both a dark and a light side, reflecting its connection with life’s many facets.
Spider spirit animal: Symbol of creativity
In many cultures, the spider is given credit for its ability to weave intricate webs that are a miracle of organic engineering. If you have the spider as an animal spirit guide, you may have an affinity with acts of creation and the ability to create delicate, intricate things or ideas that are also strong.
As the weaver of the web, the spider symbolizes the spirit of creation. In several traditions, she’s the totemic symbol of the Mother, strong feminine energy. In Ancient Egypt, the spider was used as a symbol to represent the goddess of the Divine Mother, Neith. In some American Indian tribes, it is considered as the symbol for the creator of the world and by extension is associated with the female creative energy.

Patience: The wisdom of the spider totem
Like the spider waiting her prey patiently, the presence of this spirit animal in your life could point to the need to show patience regarding a project or some ideas that you are trying to realize. Giving some time while paying attention to how events are unfolding and acting when the opportunity truly arise might be a lesson of wisdom from the spider spirit animal.
Symbolism of the spider: Life spirit and weaver of destiny
Just like the spider weaves her beautifully engineered web, this spirit animal fosters the integration of all parts and aspects of your life into a whole. When the spider shows up in your life, this spirit animal could guide you to integrate some piece of your personal “puzzle” and gain a more coherent perspective on your life.
The spider is a spirit animal whose purpose is to inspire you to gain perspective on an issue or project you contemplate taking on. Feel free to explore the many facets of the problem you are facing in order to find the appropriate solution. The power of this animal encourages you to count on your ability to view things from multiple angles and weave mental and intuitive flexibility into your daily thinking.
Spider spirit animals and your shadow self
If the spider shows up in your life, this spirit animal may remind you of negative aspects of your personality or your life that need to come to the light more fully. For many, spiders inspire fear or at least some form of aversion. As such, they tend to be associated with what psychologists would call “the shadow self”. In brief, your “shadow” or “shadow self” are aspects of your personality or your life that you or other people deem unworthy or not likable and are therefore rejected or repressed.
The spider as a spirit animal does not typically take on these negative attributes. Nevertheless, its presence in your life might bring up negative feelings or unease. Whenever you feel your relationship with your power animal is characterized by tension, discomfort or fear, you can ask yourself where these feelings also appear in your life. Look for any association with your personal feelings, even if it indirectly leads you to other areas of your life, such as work, family, or a relationship for instance.
Here’s another question to ask to interpret the meaning of the spider spirit animal and the guidance it offers: What kind of relationship or connection did you or did you want to establish with this animal? Was the spider threatening or harmful? Did you kill or harm it? The answer will indicate the kind of dynamic that is shaping up between you and what the spider represents.
Dreams: How to interpret spiders and spider spirit guides in dreams
The symbolism of the spider in dreams is generally associated with the archetype of the feminine. If the spider appears in your dreams as a spirit animal guide or as your totem, pay attention to the messages it’s offering to you: They are likely related to an important direction you’re taking in your life.
When you dream of spiders, chances are that it refers feminine energy in your life. This dream symbol could represents a woman you know or your own connection with qualities usually considered as feminine, such as receptivity, patience, creativity.
An important element to consider when you interpret the meaning of the encounter with the spider in your dream is the reaction and feelings you experienced at that time: Were you afraid? Or rather intrigued or fascinated? Was the overall atmosphere of the dream scary and stressful or enchanting, adventurous?
If you want to kill it, you might be repressing some feelings or trying to remove tension from your life. If it looks harmful or it is threatening to you, you may feel that some aspects of your personality or your life are not aligned with your highest interest or that you or your people around you are rejecting them. The spider in a negative dream could symbolize your fears or an adverse influence in your life.

Very apprehensive to even ask as I am unsure how to interpret this, I am unsure if I believe in “spirit animals”, but have had a lot of encounters with spiders seeming to actually regard me with fondness or see me as kin… it is very strange although I am frightened by them I understand their usefulness and realize they are helpful to humans.. if they were a bit bigger it might be a different story.. anyway to explain what I saw this morning I do not know how to interpret this and would like to hear some feedback…
I had just finished praying, looked towards my wall and midcenter hanging from its thread was just barely I could see the outline of what looked almost invisible, a spider about the side of my fist with long dangling legs.. as I spotted it and stared in disbelief, it ascended toward the ceiling on the thread and as I watched, disappeared becoming completely invisible. Now what may sound even odder.. is I often feel things crawling on me, and in the past have had actual in this dimension spiders crawling on me, even sitting on my shoulder while I was working like a pet. Spiders seem to be fascinated by me, even though it is terrifying to me yet at the same time strangely interesting and I feel like I understand them in inexplicable way that others do not, a connection we share many of the same traits.. I just wonder if anybody else has had an experience like this.. seeing invisible spiders or what it could mean. I did not feel threatened, but I often feel things crawling on me.. if spirit spiders are crawling on me or you, I’m sure it would freak anybody out except say a shaman or Jesus.. what could it mean … very bizarre.
Hey Daniel,
I’d meditate and try to talk to these spiders.
They probably want to tell you something or you just really live in an area where they’re super abundant!
Dude I know almost exactly how you feel. I have to learn to accept them, reading your comment gave me goose bumps.
Hi Daniel. I occasionally hear, feel, or see things, and most recently it was an anthropomorphic spider (it kept changing form from a strange stick-like bug to a frog to a large spider with black-tipped legs) during what the skeptics would call a hynogogic hallucination – trance-like state of the brain, induced by being in a calm, relaxed meditative state, i.e. while prayering, before falling asleep, or immediately after waking up from a dream but not actually sitting up in bed (remaining lying down). This spider did frighten me and it walked on the ceiling coming toward me but eventually hiding in a the raised door frame. When I finally got out of bed and turned on the light to find it, i saw that it was impossible for such a large spider to even hide in the frame! It was so weird!
One time my friends and I where on a hike and we found about 3 dead tarantulas and by seeing them I felt like something just died inside of me
I have not seen one yet in a vision, but everything else was accurate…
When I found out that my spirit animal is a spider I was surprised. I have always felt drawn to tigers and frightened by spiders. I find spiders threatening and always kill them. sometimes I wake up with six or seven bites in random spots on my body,so I think I’m a mixture of both.I’ve never had a dream about a spider either, so I think i am mixture of both.
Yesterday i was out watering my garden with my 2.5 yr old son when on our way down the side of the house my son said ” Ants Daddy” as it appeared there was a bunch of ants crawling on the side of the house…..nothing unusual for Australia
Then after a closer inspection I saw that it was a bunch, what looked like 100 , baby Redback Spiders circling around something on the wall that may have been where they were hatched or they were eating something on the wall
Im going through a breakup with my sons mother and she’s becoming very nasty and it seems she’s in “Out To get me mode ”
Are these spiders giving me the heads up on pending litigation or is she the controlling goddess that will now eat me alive ??…..Scary !
I had a dream last night where there were so many different sizes of spiders coming out of my laptop and phone. I dont think I was scared or stressed. Everytime I touched my laptop, they came out and then went back in. I remember checking my ears to see if any of them went inside my ears and felt reassured that they didnt go into my ears. Wonder what that dream meant.
PS: the spiders were not ugly. They kinda looked nice too!
Interesting… I’m trying to figure out what a really vivid dream I had last night means. I had a vivid blue spider in a container I was showing people, and then the spider got out. At first, I was scared, but then, the spider turned into a bright rainbow butterfly. No clue what that means, and reading everything separately and trying to combine them is just confusing…
hi mags, decided to reply to your dream bc 1. i also go by “mags” 2. i cant sleep bc there is a huge cane spider the size of my hand on my wall 3. your dream seems pretty clear cut to me, i see it as follows:
the blue spider is your innate creative gift, (we’ve all got something!) which you’ve kept under control (in the jar) which lends you the ability to also control who gets to see your gift, and how they get to see it…the dream is saying that if you “loosen your grip” on your creativity, it might be scary at first, but soon enough you will see it add more beauty (rainbow) and freedom (butterfly) to your life experience.
very encouraging dream, thanks for sharing it!
Wow, that dream makes so much more sense now! Thank you for taking the time to explain it, also mags! :-) and i hope you got some sleep!
I had a dream of a scary spider turning into a rainbow butterfly today!
I actually thought my spirit animal was the owl but at least now i know for sure what my animal actually is :/
I’ve always been fascinated with spiders. Everyone thinks I am weird but they’re do beautiful and graceful when they spin their webs. I normally protect them and admire their abilities. I will make an effort to pick it up an put them outside away from danger. I’m looking to get a tattoo of a black widow (a 3D one) on me because I admire them .
In my dream I had a spider tattoo and when an evil troll like creature came near to where I was hiding the tattoo either attracted or spawned spiders.
I see shadow spides walking on the ceiling at times wen i just wake up from sleep what can this means.
This is strange,i have some similar visions with spiders running up to walls , dreams that they are chasing me and one time i woke up terrified that a spider was on my pillow
Hey, from my experience it’s the manifestation of lower vibrational energies. Could be though forms or emotions of a lower vibration.
I always see this when I haven’t cleared my space in a while, its a clear sign to clear the clutter and lift the frequency.
As a suggestion
First clear any cobwebs in the corners of the room then
Use Sage or palo santo. Setting the intention to clear the space of all that doesn’t serve your highest potential.
I like to play a looping OM to anchor the vibration.
After that a short mediation with intent to anchor high vibrational energy. Visualising pillars of light at the corners of the room.
Lastly programming the walls of your space what to allow and not allow.
Simply placing hand on wall and giving clear instruction Like a crystal. Hope this helps:)
I am wondering the same thing. I think I am awake and I see a spider on the wall and as I start to panic at the sight of such a big spider I wake up. Everything is the same except the spider is gone.. and my heart rate is through the roof… any opinions?
wow…………I KNEW IT YAY I LOVE SPIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i know i know im a tomboy! and also im not afraid of spiders
I have this same experience at least one to two times a week. My poor husband cops the light being turned on in the middle of the night and told that there is a spider on the wall or on my pillow or me frantically searching the bed for what I believe is a real spider, only to be told by my husband that there is no way that I could have seen a spider in the darkness of night. I’m starting to feel rather disturbed over this reoccurring experience. I have slept walked all my childhood and adult life but this is different. What the hell does it mean?
I have the personality of a spider, and my Spirit Animal is the Tiger. I thought at first “A spider?!XP” But then, I realized I kind of liked spiders. I thank this site very much. It is a great place for everyone.
When I was little, I used to be afraid of spiders, but after I experienced a rough depression, my fear went away. Lately, they’ve been appearing in my dreams, usually just crawling around on the walls. I’ve been curious about what it means, so I guess this is the answer.
yo what up katie
Hello everyone. I would like to share some information that a cat friend recently showed to me. The cat explained that spider webs are not only a home to catch food, but are placed quite deliberately over energetic openings or places where two differing frequencies meet and clash. The spider creates an energy environment that neutralizes these openings and closes them. Yes, spiders have archetypal meanings in different cultures, but the best way to figure out why spiders are appearing in your dreams, daydreams, and under the eaves is to simply ask them. They work quite diligently to mesh otherworld and earth energies, so perhaps a dream about them would indicate your need to recognize and understand energies that are unseen. Frequent scary daydreams involving spiders might indicate that everyday fears and negativity are overwhelming your thoughts and punching through your psyche. These fears need to be found and treated gently and mended with compassion and skill, just as a spider would weave a web over such openings. Spiders are beautiful and gentle healers that can teach us a great deal about patience with ourselves and our fellow soul beings. Love and Light to you all.
