Peacock Spirit Animal
The Peacock Message of Balance & Foundation
Like anything, it’s easy to get caught up in the good and risk taking it too far. As the peacock totem guides you to embrace self-love and confidence, don’t allow yourself to become arrogant, vain, or unapproachable. Maintaining a delicate balance of confidence and humility is the key.
Balance is obtained by having a strong foundation. Those studying the mysticism of the peacock should pay attention to the feet. The feet are our foundation and support system. Peacocks have sharp, powerful metatarsal spurs also known as ‘kicking thorns’. They use these to defend themselves against predators. Their legs are strong and they have three strong toes facing forward and one facing backwards. What message about balance and having a strong foundation is the peacock bringing to you?

The Peacock & The Phoenix
Historically, some traditions equate the peacock spirit animal to the Phoenix, a mythical bird that is said to have risen from funeral pyre ash and to be reborn. Why the comparison? Like the Phoenix, the peacock exudes confidence and offers encouragement to shed the old to make way for the new. Another reason is that the peacock of all birds most closely resembles the phoenix in appearance.
Peacock Religious and Cultural Meanings
In Hinduism, the peacock is associated with Lakshmi the goddess of prosperity and wealth. Like Lakshmi, the peacock power animal is generally symbolic of patience, benevolence, and compassion.
Similarly in Asian spirituality, the peacock is associated with the goddess Kwan-yin. The peacock totem holds similar attributes in the Asian tradition, including compassion, good-will, and kind-heartedness.
Christian traditions equate the peacock power animal’s attributes of renewal, rejuvenation, and immortality to elements of Christian doctrine and teaching, such as Christ’s death and resurrection.
In Egypt the Peacock was associated with the sun god and the eye of Horus. This was most likely due to the pattern of what looks like “eyes” on its feathers. Another reason the peacock was so revered in Egypt is because the peacock destroyed poisonous snakes.
Peacock’s True Colors
Embracing your inner truth and allowing your true colors to show can be a point of inspiration and comfort for those around you. Lead by example. If you talk the talk, be sure you walk the walk. It is the peacock’s consistent grace and confidence that attracts attention and admiration.
The iridescent blue green color of the peacock’s feathers has often been associated with royalty and the traits of self-confidence and leadership. The distinctive pattern of “eyes” on the feathers is associated with vision and wisdom.
The Peacock In Healing Traditions
Shamanic traditions often incorporate peacock feathers into their rituals and ceremonies for their healing and protective properties. Symbolizing purity, peacock feathers have historically been placed upon or tied over wounds to draw out poison and negativity.
The Peacock in Dreams
Seeing a peacock in your dreams is generally a good omen. Representing longevity and rejuvenation, it may be time to take a step back and examine where you are in life and where you want to go.
Dreaming of a peacock spirit animal that’s vocalizing or squawking can indicate you may be trying too hard to make statement, maybe try toning it down some. Reason being, peacocks are normally quiet birds who only “sound the alarm” when something is amiss or they’re under undue stress. Showing one’s beauty and true colors with confidence is one thing, but don’t make yourself a spectacle.
On the flip-side, the presence of this graceful power animal in dreams may also portend you’re being watched.

After 18 years and 2 years of Accupuncture monthly to keep him comfortable, it was time to let our dog go. The vet came over so he went in his own house in my boyfriend’s arms.
The next morning a peacock showed up. We’ve lived in the house for 7 years and never heard or saw one. He’s lived here for 2 years now….
Beautiful explanantions!
Peacock came today!!! Right on time
Thank you for your explanation. It makes sense to me
A peacock showed up at my house 4 days ago. I don’t live in an area that has them..nor do any of my neighbors. My grandmother is in hospice and this bird showed up and helped bring me amusement. I ended up naming him Waldo since I am always looking for him. I asked my higher power for an answer on handling my grams death…and I got a peacock. Interesting…
We never really die. We just change forms. Life is eternal. I wish you peace and understanding and all the goodness of the universe.
When I was in college especially on test days I would see a small owl. This is during day light hours and we know owls sleep at night
Each time I saw the owl upon entering the school, I would know that all will be well. When meditating on who my spirit animal is during my twenties i found it was the wolf. Now I’m 67 years old and the peacock has been around me for about 18 years. Your quiz says I’m a turtle.
All of these spirit animals have been influencing me. I’m blessed
My brother passed away on June 10th 2018 and on Wednesday June 13th 2018 there has been a peacock walking through my parents home for the past 24 hours and we know that it must be spiritual because as of 2:45 p.m. June 14th the peacock is still there it is something special and this will be a learning experience and a spiritual experience
You would not believe what I have been going through in the last year and a half. Long less that these peacocks just showed up here at about the same time and have been staying here throughout all of it. It is unreal!
My native self just realized the other day, that maybe I might should ask why they are here? Or the thought occurred to me, that I might should be paying closer attention.
Go figure!
BEAUTIFUL
Thank you for the great description. At this moment in my life I can realet to the peacock very well and what it is trying to teach me.
