The dragonfly is often seen around water, ponds or on the edge of a river or lake. Dragonfly totem and the search for personal authenticity
The dragonfly is a fascinating animal characterized by the beauty of its colors, the lightness of its wings and its scintillating body. The meaning of this power animal is associated with the symbolism of light, but also illusion.
Those who have the dragonfly as a spirit animal may be encouraged to show their true colors more often and shine. Even if they may be more discreet than let’s say the peacock, they often exert a fascinating influence and arouse curiosity in others.
When the dragonfly shows up in your life, it’s perhaps time to look through illusion. A situation or someone’s intentions are not clear and may be deceiving.
Dragonflies and the connection with the spirits of nature
Dragonflies are powerful allies to connect with the spirit of nature. Their fairy-like quality makes them auspicious spirit animals to work with the power of light and fairy realms.
Animal of wonder, the dragonfly can bring forth the enchanting spirit of our own nature. When you see this spirit animal, allow yourself to open up to the magic of nature and the elements.
Dragonfly symbolism in the world and ancient traditions
Japan made the dragonfly its national emblem. It is a symbol of joy and rebirth. In some Native American traditions, it is also symbol of the departed souls. For the Mayan, the dragonfly is the emblematic animal of the goddess of creativity, Ix Chel. It is said that the dragonfly’s wings and magical songs revived her after she almost got killed.
Dreaming of Dragonflies
Similar to other spirit animals, the dragonfly is a symbol of transformation and change. They begin their life in the water, but soon transform into the agile flyers that we know them to be. If dragonfly appears in your dreams it may be telling you that a change is coming. If the dragonfly lands on you, it is believed to be a good change. If the dragonfly is dead, it is believed to be a bad change.
Dragonflies are fast, agile and have a short life cycle. If the dragonfly in your dream is moving fast from place to place, it may be a sign to live life fully in the present. Where have you been holding back? What are you waiting for? Do you dare to fly fast and free?

Yes, My mom went to Heaven 2/25/14. As a tribute I dedicated our garden to her. As I was working on the flower bed tears were streaming down my face as I was working with the soil and talking to her. A dragonfly came and stayed with me for a very long time not more then 36 inches from me. Just stayed there with me. I knew it was my mom too saying I see what you are doing and I love you. Today, I finally decided to look up what a dragonfly was all about. Very cool that she picked this insect to represent. Peace and see you on the other side mommy.

My condolences to your friend and her family. That story had me all chocked up. I am a strong believer in things in that nature. I do believe things come in our lives for a reason, unfortunately, some people are blinded with other things to see something like that (not anyone in your group). Keep up the faith and may god watch over your friend and her family.
After my husband passed, a red dragonfly came to my house and a few days later a green one came. I had a blue dragonfly land on the flowers on the marker and he just sat there looking at me. Flew away after about 30 minutes. My grandson told me “papaw said it was time to leave”.
My Mom passed away in 2004 and it was devastating. I have always been open to signs from her and other loved ones that have passed. In 2009 I got pregnant with my daughter and was extremely sick during my pregnancy, little did I know I was battling chronic Lyme Disease while pregnant. Well one day sitting outside getting some fresh air I started to think about my Mom wishing she was there with me. During my thoughts a dragonfly flew by and when I stuck my hand out it landed on my finger. I knew it was a sign. I have had so many crazy encounters since then. I have had them fly in my house following my daughter and I inside. I found one in my house, another time, not realizing even when it had come inside. Those are just of few of my many amazing encounters. If people were more open, they would also see the beautiful little gifts we are given every day by our loved ones!
I don’t know why, but dragonflies seem to love me. They will ride with me for long periods when I’m kayaking. I had a dragonfly land on me while sitting at my campsite and remain there for nearly a half hour – until I got up from my seat.
After reading the information about the Dragonfly Spirit Animal, it makes me wonder. I had gone through a divorce at 51. I began kayaking and have found such peace and joy in it. I am meeting & making many new friends and trying new things whenever the opportunity presents itself. If dragonflies continue to come to me like this, AFTER a great change in my life, what does that mean? I am always very happy & comforted when they feel safe enough to land and remain on me…
I worked for a direct sales jewelry company that came out with a pin every once in a while. They came out with this gorgeous dragonfly pin that I kept rather than giving away. Usually I would give away many pieces from my collection for future Hostesses. Something kept telling me to keep it. Every time I went to go put it with my collection of items I was going to give away, I would decide not to. I always thought it was me being greedy but, November5th, 2014 my sister passed away. The day of her viewingi was looking for things I can put in her casket and I saw the pin and immediately knew I had to place it on her. I always told myself I would keep it for a special occasion. Ironically the company came out with a firefly necklace that I kept for myself to wear to have a connection with my sister. Not sure what her animal totem was but, I know for me the dragonfly resembles beauty and life. I have not seen any dragonflies but know wheni do it will be a magical moment.
That is really, really beautiful Heather. Thank you for sharing and you know what …? I have no doubt you will go on to see many dragonflies and when you do, know it is your sister looking down on you and at you, with love xox.
Blessings and Love my dear

Heather,
I love the story you shared – thank you!
Dragonflies can always be found near water. If you have ponds, rivers or lakes near you, try visiting them frequently in the summer. I know you will see your dragonfly soon!!
Last month while in Selma Alabama, I saw a red dragonfly fly right past me. It told me I was going to do good at the funeral. And I did.
I am working on my dream project now a days and that is all I care about now a days. The dragon flies keep coming to my house every now and then these days especially when I am lost, confused or simply dreamy
I wish I had the power to understand what they are really telling me.
Does any body has an answer ? Am I heading towards my goal or do I need a change in my approach that’s what I am wondering about now.

I had a dragonfly land on my sleeve a few years ago when I was getting into my car to go to work. It wouldn’t fly away. When I arrived at work it wouldnt leave the car and consequently died
I have had multiple dragon flies land on me, even if I’m just walking around, they are so beautiful and amazing creatures, truly magical.
They fly into my car if a window or door is open, they hover around me, they follow me around. I have always been curious about what my totem might be, thought maybe a tiger because my birthyear in the Chinese calendar is the year of the tiger but that never felt totally right.
the moment I saw this page, it was like a light bulb went on! I have found my totem…Thank you for your part in my discovery.
