Butterfly totem and transformation
The butterfly is a symbol of powerful transformations. By analogy to the development of this animal, the meaning associated with the butterfly emphasizes the ability to move from one state, perspective, lifestyle to another.
When the butterfly comes into your life as spirit guide, you may be going through or expect important changes in your life. More than changes in your environment, the transformation the butterfly totem points to are more internal: They could be related to your own perspective on a subject, aspects of your personality, or personal habits. Personal transformation is emblematic of the butterfly symbolism.

Butterfly totem symbol of joy and lightness of being
When the butterfly shows up in your life as a spirit animal or totem, it might indicate the need to look at a conflicting situation with more lightness and different perspective. This totem animal is symbolic of lightness of being and elevation from the heaviness of tensions.
This power animal invites those who have a connection with it to bring joy and bliss into their lives. Butterflies often have bright colors. By extension, they are associated with aliveness and brightness. The message of this totem animal is to lighten up and add more color to your life. Perhaps it’s time to express yourself more fully and show your colorful personality.
The Butterfly and the world of the Soul
In many traditions around the world, the butterfly is a symbol of the soul or soul world. For example, in Chinese symbology, it can represent immortality. For the Japanese, a white butterfly symbolizes the soul the departed ones.
In Ancient Greece, butterflies represent the psyche or soul, and its attribute of immortality.
Calling the butterfly totem for support
The butterfly is a powerful animal to call when you need support in times of transition, whether it’s at work, in a relationship, or when you’re doing inner work. Great ally during intense periods of personal transformation, it will add ease and lightness to the process.
This power animal is a good inspiration for adding more color into your life and self-expression. Those who have the butterfly as a totem animal may be naturally inclined to express themselves openly, to reflect their colors into their environment.
Dreaming About Butterflies
Dreams are our subconscious minds communicating to us using the language of symbols. The classic interpretation of a butterfly in your dreams is that of transformation. Did the dream start with a caterpillar, cocoon or butterfly? The key to its meaning of transformation depends on where in the life cycle the butterfly is. Associated with the idea of transformation is also rebirth and transmutation of energy. The butterfly can also symbolize freedom, expansion and full self expression. Lastly, the butterfly may symbolize social success.

As I walked out my back door heading to work on the morning that my mom passed away (8/5/14), I found a cocoon hatching in a small swimming pool that my mother had given to my girls. I called my oldest (8) daughter out to see it and we took a picture, which I was going to send to my mom when I returned from work. This all happened at 9:17 a.m. I received a call that afternoon that my mom had been found unresponsive that morning, she later passed away that evening at 10:11. My mom was my rock and my best friend and I was so emotionally distraught that numbers should have been the last thing that stuck out in my mind. But I kept telling my family about this cocoon I found at exactly 9:17 that morning. Yesterday (9/17/14), my 8 year old was outside playing when she walked in with with a beautiful butterfly IDENTICAL to the butterfly that was coming out of the cocoon!! It willingly crawled from her hand to my finger without one flap of its wings. It crawled from one finger to another, onto my knee and eventually I sat it on my moms recliner so I could get some things done (we were admiring this butterfly for almost 2 full hours). When I returned to check on it it had fallen off the arm of the chair and was fluttering around as if it couldn’t find it’s balance. I picked it up and sat it outside where it sat for a minute and then flew off.
I’m not sure what to think, all I know is that when I took possession of the butterfly from my daughter, my whole body tingled, I was weak and all I could is cry!
That is a FABULOUS story that actually brought a tear to my eye!! There is NO doubt about who and what that represented..That is magical and I hope heartwarming to know she sees and is with you always..My mom is a cardinal bird, she is always around..especially when I need her most..I trust in the magic. So I hope you were comforted by a butterfly that sat in a chair for two hours,,have you ever know a butterfly to sit in a home?? :) God Bless and stay strong..she will guide and be with you forever..just pay attention to the signs..My mom past when I was 24 ..29 yrs ago.

Be well

I’ve had dragonflies and butterflies that I felt that same sort of connection with after my dad’s parents, my mom’s dad and my great-uncle whom our family adores/adored passed away. I still feel that kind of connection with them through various animals, not just butterflies or dragonflies. It’s an amazingly magical feeling when that happens.
Thank you for that beautiful story!
Interestingly, I have had a lot of Owls turn up in my life lately – not real ones, just symbols — a gift from a friend of a top-hatted Owl statue, a tin/multi-media Owl by Sergio Bustamante (of all the E-bay auctions I bid on, this one was the only auction I won), an Owl painting that I did at an Art class (that was the picture we were all supposed to paint with acrylics), and the list goes on. So, my daughter suggested I look up the meaning of the Owl Totem. I did and it seemed to make sense, but in taking this quiz, my Spirit Animal is the Butterfly. That made more sense as I have been following a new series of meditations, yoga, Tai Chi, and listening to Dr. Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, and others who are very good mentors in the area of finding your spiritualism. This is a new part of my life, since turning 60, and I find it so enjoyable, I am even able to bring it into my career to help my clients in different ways. I feel more peace and calm in my life, animals (mine and others) seem to be drawn to it more than ever before, and those who have been a negative influence in my life seem to be leaving of their own accord. It is interesting that the meaning of this Totem seems to be so accurate to my life at this particular time. Am I seeing Butterflies lately? Yes, but then I have always had them around me, in my garden, landing on me, landing on my flowers, etc. Just thought Mother Nature was having fun — and she was, but now I think I understand better.
Butterflies are like rainbows they come in many shapes and colors and yet they are still so beautiful.
the butterfly also represents lightness of soul, lifting your spirit above mortal concerns and allowing personal transition from one phase of life to another in a positive way. a powerful method for overcoming fears.
stupid hippies
Ignorant fuck
You can’t fix yourself by breaking someone else.
If you consider these people as “Stupid Hippes”, please explain why you are on this website. It seems to me that you are projecting yourself on to others because you have no idea who you are and therefore you are looking for answers. Open up your mind and find the answers you seek. I find it quite funny when people, like yourself, choose to say things that are derogatory yet find themselves in the same positions as others. For example, your “educated” comment. From a psychological standpoint, it seems that your journey of self-realization can be achieved only if you put more effort into finding yourself than berating others. I hope you are doing well and that you have a great day.
i frequently see butterfly in front of my house everytime i step out nd every where i go i still see this white butterfly .i personally love colourful creatures because it great remind and make me appreciate God .i emotionally felt like catching this beautiful white and colourful butterflies, but deep down inside of me i feel an angel is around me .
They say that white butterflies are your loved ones that have crossed over. That’s beautiful that you see white ones.
If you are a spiritual person it could be God trying to speak to you. Theres many stories in the Bible where God or Angels spoke to people during their dreams. Read about Joseph and Mary and another one is Abraham. This is just a couple.
Cool
I once saw a butterfly outside, an it fluttered. I know, I know guys, crazy right? But it inspired me to flutter…off of the roof. I now have two broken legs, but it was totes worth it.
Are you insane? Don’t just break yourself because of thus crazy ‘spirit animal’ stuff!!!
Today i had a strange dream. I tried to connect with a powerfull white spirit that helped me once before some months.
I need his guidence for something in my life now and i tryied to call it.The spirit answer me with his voice not with his image this time. I give you the words.
“When you need me truely call me.
I am inside the sun that rises, inside the air, inside the plants, inside everything around you. When you feel presure look for the white butterfly.”
With the last words i see a glowing butterfly made of white light. Move the flies and after divined at 2 and the parts fly away.
Can you tell me what this means?
“”sorry for bad english””
i took this quiz (and similar) a few times and I usually get either tiger or butterlfy (sometimes hummingbird). Seems weird considering how different are those animals. I guess it might have something to do with all the paradoxes and contrasts in my personality.
I don’t really have any intriguing stories of my experiences with butterflies, and to be honest, I was slightly disappointed with my quiz result. Like someone said above, butterflies seem so fragile and almost weak. But I remember back when I was young, I would ask my mother each spring to order caterpillars in the mail for me to raise in that cardboard box. I loved watching my caterpillars transform and develop into beautiful butterflies and one of my favorite parts was letting them into the wild. Though, looking back, I feel guilty for raising them in captivity only to release them unknowingly into the wild, though I’m sure they have basic instinct to know how to survive.
I also always begged my mom to let me visit the butterfly garden at the zoo. Butterflies would land on me (especially my head, I probably had some tasty smelling shampoo at the time). I was also very thrilled to know that there was a “Julia” (iulia) butterfly.
We also kept certain flowers blooming in our backyard to attract bees, and especially butterflies. And whenever I see them in the wild, which is very uncommon, I am transfixed. Maybe my totem really is a butterfly. (:
All I wanna say is that whole, easing them in captivity thing is just cool regardless. My friend, saved a baby squirl, and bought duck eggs and raised them. I also know what you mean, when Im out in nature or in public and I see a butterfly, it brings me peace, and I feel nothing but good vibes.
