The Adventurous Raccoon
Raccoons love to explore. By nature they are extremely curious. This often leads them to get into things they shouldn’t. Their nighttime excursions are mini adventures and raccoons can cover a lot of distance in an evening. They are keen to constantly explore new realms. The raccoon spirit animal may be a sign that it’s time to get curious and start exploring!
The Courageous Raccoon
Raccoons are extremely courageous and can even be quite ferocious for small animals. Despite the raccoon’s cleverness and emphatic nature, it will fight when it feels threatened. Likewise, it teaches you to be aware of when to let things slide and when you should stand up for yourself.
The Raccoon In Traditional Folklore
Many North American Indian tribes have long-viewed the raccoon as a trickster. The mischievous raccoon is most frequently portrayed light-heartedly as a leading character in children’s tales. The spirit animal is also the inspiration for many Native American dances and is recognized, in part, in rituals and ceremonies.
Known for its stealthy ability to scavenge, the raccoon has the uncanny ability to acquire what it needs, namely food, and escape dangerous situations. Its dexterity, such as the ability to open doors, sets it apart from other spirit animals.
Historically, the raccoon has also been a clan symbol for many tribes, including the Chickasaw and Shawnee of Oklahoma and the Chippewa in Minnesota.
Raccoon Is Your Spirit Animal For Life
Like all totems, the raccoon enters your life to teach you specific lessons. Once the raccoon animal totem becomes your power animal, it is by your side for the rest of your life. Developing and understanding this unique relationship takes time and patience.
Dreaming About A Raccoon
To see a raccoon in your dreams is sometimes seen as a red flag. There is treachery and deceitfulness afoot. Whether you are not being forthcoming with yourself or others about situations in your life or someone is deceiving you, you may want to examine your current situation.
The presence of this nocturnal scavenger could also indicate you are keeping a secret or have something to hide. It is time to be honest with yourself and those around you.
On the positive side, dreaming of a raccoon may mean you are feeling like a protector and provider. Maybe you have been providing for others who are less fortunate than you from the behind the scenes while protecting your identity with a mask. This dream symbol may be letting you know that your benevolence will be coming back to you full circle.

Your message brought tears to my eyes. I have also been incharge of caring for orphan racoons. I however, worked for an animal rehab “Wildhaven Ranch” in Arrowhead, CA so was able to see follow through of them being released to nature. I have been seeing lots of racoons on the road lately and once again am feeling very close and feel racoon is one of my spirit animals for sure. Thank you for sharing your story!
i feel like a raccoon lol
i am a racoon i hate mint,i eat trash.
I have been thinking a lot the past year or so about my spirit animal. I have a strong connection to nature and all animals so it seemed confusing. All the internet quizzes being intended for a multitude of people never accounted for me. Similarities yes, but never more than that. I sure never even considered a raccoon. Several months ago quite by chance I had been given a litter of infant raccoons because everyone knows how much I care about animals and knew I’d take care of them. Anyone having bottle fed an animal knows what a chore 3 little guys were. I mean by my best calculations less than a day old. They were found in a piece of machinery that had been moved from another location. I quickly fell in love and throughout the process learned a lot about an animal that I had kind of taken for granted. I live in Ohio and believing I was doing the right thing and for fear of losing them I applied for a permit only to find out they aren’t really even available and it’s a “mistake” on the website. The State of Ohio Wildlife Office located in Xenia, Ohio used the information I had supplied on the permit application to come and forcibly remove my boys from our home and put them all down because they had the potential for being to nice and bothering people in the future although I could provide them 150 acre home in the country. Clearly this affected me deeply!!! In the past couple months I have been seeing them more often but this morning one crossed the road in front of me on my way to work and it hit me like a ton of bricks that is my spirit animal! Not really knowing what that could possibly mean I looked it up this morning and spot on! I love owls which I usually get on quizzes, and I love dragonflies ect but never has any hit the mark quite like raccoon :-)
That’s so heartbreaking!???????? I would so be devastated. I’m so sorry this happened to you, and shame on the state for pulling that horse shit. I bet the boys are on your spirit team, helping you along this wild ride of life in our skin suit. It’s also possible raccoon is one of your spirit animals :) and of course, both are possible and IMO probable. ❤️
Also, it’s super common to have multiple spirit animals. From what I’ve seen, we all have several power animals that stick with us our entire incarnation, those animals our personal energy is the most attuned to. We also have spirit animals pop up to help us with specific lessons. There are transition guides that come through specifically in times of change/turmoil (for example, I had polar bear when I was in an abusive relationship and basically homeless b/c polar bear helps us deal with difficult emotions and also polar bears find home in impossible terrain; his name was Mobley and he did absolutely fantastic for my situation). Of couse, these are just my views from research and personal experience. I always suggest for everyone to only implement what resonates with them. ❤️
Im disgusted by what they did to your raccoons. Ill be blunt and say such people dont even deserve a place on this earth and are the reason aging exists so dictators who do real damage by not being nice to people and raccons die naturally so we dont have to suffer them forever. So others can have some balance. I have one that likes coming through the cat door. I have 5 black cats. He wont hurt any of them. He fills his belly with cat food and slept on my chair. Then left. Came back before dawn he was sleeping in my chair outside my bedroom. Rolls around like a cat. Grinds his feet into the furniture Like Rick James. lol. Lookin right at me. Walks right past me within 12 inches. I started covering the cat door. I have a falconry permit and cannot have any illegal animals. He didnt even ransack my place. He comes around the house. Birdfeeders are full of seeds. He gets a drink out of the pond. I keep heater on. Im sure those scumbag will have a nice time in lack of karma hell. Their spirit animal is probably the toilet bug or the dung beetle. The noncharismatic ones of no importance. Id report that to an animal rights group. I blast those scumbags all over facebook on animal sites. Local newspapers and whoever would listen. Those headaches despite no punishment dished out stifles careers, advancements etc. Above all get the word out so people like you can be warned about jerks like them. Area specific video which can help all over or where that crap exists on youtube. Even anonymous or just mimed out will help someone like you and little buggers like them.

My spirit animal is also raccoon
????
So, I had a dream last night that there was some sort of furry animal that wrapped itself around the back of my neck and wouldn’t come off unless I convinced it to. I saw it as a mole, but after waking up and analyzing, saw it as more of a raccoon. I managed to get it off of me (in my dream) by having it fall asleep, peeling it and it’s very sharp claws off of my neck, throwing it into my back yard and running into the house and slamming the patio door. I felt relieved.
After I woke up, I drew open my bedroom curtains and felt like I saw something on my flat roof out of the corner of my eye. I immediately imagined a raccoon as they often climb the roof during garbage night to traverse the neighbourhood. Thinking my mind was just relating to the dream, I didn’t bother to turn back around and check it out.
An hour later, I was in my back yard and my neighbour called over to me to look at the tree in their back yard. What was there, hanging out in the tree at 11am? A big old raccoon. Chilling out, lying on a branch, just staring at me and looking relaxed (not sick or rabid).
It’s been there for four hours adjusting it’s sleep position.
I just had five dogs in my yard and it couldn’t have cared less.
I’m finding this bizarre and trying to understand what it means.
I’m an empath and have abilities, so I’m not surprised that I’m seeing the raccoon, but I can’t get a clear definition or analysis as to its meaning.
Perhaps the ‘cooner will let me know in good time, but it’s definitely wacky and, to me, not really a coincidence.
