When lion spirit animals warn about challenges
This spirit animal could point to one of your weak spots or a difficult situation you’re experiencing. The lion animal spirit guide is perhaps showing you the way to deal with the issue and keep going with the courage it also embodies.
Lions could also represent an authority that may feel overpowering or a conflicting relationship with power and authority. When you see a lion as a spirit animal, it could symbolize external power, authority, forces that dominate or rule parts of your life. For instance, if you dream about a scar or threatening lion, it may remind you that you need to deal with an overbearing boss, partner or teacher in your waking life.
Lion spirit animal, symbol for anger & personal struggle
Seeing your lion spirit animal could be an invitation to control your temper or your moderate aggressive impulses. For instance, observe if you could really listen to what people have to say before striking back at them. Or explore how to express your needs or anger more openly and constructively to reduce your level of frustration.
If you are dreaming of being chased by a lion, it may represent a situation that brings about personal struggle. Common dream scenarios with threatening lions are as follows: A lion suddenly appears in your dream. You feel threatened by this wild animal known for devouring its prey with no mercy. The lion is now preying on you. You’re trying to escape, but it is still behind you, chasing you like you’re about to get devoured.
Dream interpretation: Being chased by a lion
This lion dream scenario is classic. Dreaming of being chased by a lion is one of the most common themes featuring this creature in the dream world. The lion chasing you generally connects to the struggle the dreamer is experiencing regarding feelings of anger or aggression in waking life.
The dream about your lion spirit animal could point to anger you may feel towards someone or aggression that is directed at you. Being chased by a lion in a dream could be a warning from your animal totem that you’re struggling with these feelings and how to express them. The lion totem could mean that you’re having difficulties dealing with a situation where someone is mean or aggressive with you.
Scary dreams about lions
Terrorized by your lion dream?
This kind of dream is expressing in strong images what you actually feel within. The meaning of your lion dream is symbolic and likely represents the intense psychological or emotional tensions you are experiencing in your waking life. Dreaming about a lion in this way is an invitation to examine what’s happening in your life that is causing tension and despair.
Most likely, you’re facing a challenging situation or behavior that is hard to comprehend at a conscious level and the lion appears as a spirit animal to help. It may be too hard to deal with or seem unacceptable to you and therefore is rejected out of your awareness, a bit like a protection, a defense mechanism. The presence of your lion spirit animal could be a warning to pay attention to a situation or person who’s creating worries or concerns for you.
On a positive note, a terrifying lion is likely indicating that you’re in the process of becoming more aware of the issues at hand. It works as a reminder that whatever is bothering you in your waking life needs to come out in the open to be dealt with. Bring forth the courage that lion totems symbolize.
Lion spirit animals in dreams: When the lion bites you
A lion that bites you in your dream could be a warning from your spirit animal and signify that you’re feeling overwhelmed in your waking life. The source of worries could be about feelings you or someone else may have or a situation that is particularly challenging. The image of the lion bite is a strong call to look at what’s going on in your life that could feel threatening or dangerous before it really “bites” you.
Another interpretation of such lion dream is to ask yourself what is dominating your life these days and see if you can bring more balance.
Scary images of lion spirit animals and the “shadow self”
When you are scared by the presence of your lion spirit animal, whether it’s in dreams or in waking life, this could be an invitation to look at your “shadow self”. The shadow self is a part of yourself that you prefer to keep “in the shadow” or the dark. In other words, a part of yourself you would hide or reject because it’s not likeable, you or other people think it’s unacceptable, not worthy, etc.
Your spirit animal indicates the need to look at these aspects of yourself and resolve the tensions inner conflicts may create. For instance, by just starting to acknowledge parts of your “shadow self”, looking at them, perhaps understanding what they are about, what they are connected with, you can start bringing a better understanding of yourself.

I have always remembered dreaming when I was 3 about speaking to a lion on my bed. Can’t remember the conversation but it may have been the longest dream I recall.
Hi, my dream was about his huge fenced yard that connects to different parts of the house, only separated by iron gates. Inside the fence was a male, brown lion. I just had a baby and i dream i was running/moving around the house, sometimes being in the same place as the lion but separated by the fence, and I can hear my baby crying but dont recall seeing him in the dream. All i feel in the dream was fear that the lion gets to my baby. Is it that im just overprotective of my little one or a warning that has something to do with him…or me?
I dreamed I’m walking unknown street green leafy fences both sides I saw a chair in the distance. Walked toward chair I sat down and suddenly I saw a female lion or female tiger she is like a pet she is big and so friendly like a pet , came to me , sat down in my lap. Then I realize I got to go she Won’t let me move so I’m not scared I’m just concern I got go. And I’m just wasting time playing . She’s so loveLy Like a big cat , I see her eyes and big cat face caressing me . I’m happy with her with her love .
This is sooo weird but so accurate! I have been dreaming of a pride of lions running around, not really chasing me, but if I happen to run into them, I instinctively know to get away? If that makes any sense. Anywho, the section on dealing with Anger or Temper, as Well as the section on Courage are pretty accurate. I am at a point in my life where I am venturing out to do something I’ve never done, and its both frightening and exciting at the same time. I love this article!
Wow! I can so relate, and I found this to be interesting and helpful! I recently had a bad dream about being chased by a lion! This article really makes me think about why I keep having bad dreams about being chased usually by humans, but never by a wild animal! This was my first dream as I can’t recall of having being chased by a lion before! Needless to say it scared me and i woke me up! But now having meaning behind why I would have such a dream now makes more sense! Thank you for sharing this.
my dream is so wired,am driving a car then am riding a bike almost falling down on a hill but land safely, then passed 4 dogs, again riding passed between 2 male lions roaring at me big ones”very close”,and i passed them,i survived
Hi, I would like to inquire about my dream regarding lions.
There was a lion running all over the urban streets then a group of men tried chasing it to tame it down yet they can’t then it was targeting me. Looking at me, aiming. Before I knew it, a man jumped before the lion can reach me then he was overpowered by the lion and when he looked at me, I saw that it was my boyfriend. I got terrified for him but i wasnt able to see if he was bitten or whatsoever. I suddenly woke up from my dream yet feeling paralyzed for a couple of seconds. Please help me decode this dream :)
Saw a male lion and female lion with kid. Killed the female lion then the male lion got angry and chased me, was very close before i woke up from the dream. Can anyone explain that?
HI. I feel that the female represents your feminine aspect. Which is your intuitive nurturing and spiritual side. You killed it in the dream which means you didn’t actually end it but perhaps you could acknowledge and develop those qualities in your days. Could read about that and check it out. yes the male lion was upset as that is part of you too and when working in harmony, you are more. I think take a look and things will be enjoyably opening up for you. Its probably helpful to work with subtle feeling, gut feeling, silence, meditation, relaxation etc. Bring theses qualities to your current situation a little. best wishes.p
I had a dream about a Lion and it seemed majestic. I love Lions, is my favorite animal and it made me feel very happy just dreaming about him. In some ways I have always felt related to them, needless to mention I’m a Leo too. The way it makes me feel whenever I see images or pictures about them, is like a strong heat of love inside my chest that takes over my body. What else could my dream mean? ..I was just doing something else in my dream, but alls that I remember is me leaving everything I was doing to contemplate him walking up towards a hill, while doing so.. he noticed my presence, yet he continued peacefully walking upwards.
I’ve been battling asthmatic bronchitis and some unknown infection and was running fever 103F when I had this dream. In it, I was walking a male lion on a leash, taking him to his kennel. There was a very brief moment when I felt some fear, with the knowledge that if he decided to turn on me, then I would be dead. However, he did not turn on me. Instead, he stayed very calm and walked by my side like a well-trained dog. He could easily have rebelled against the leash –and against me– but he did not. As soon as I realized that he seemed to have no intentions of attacking me or trying to get away, my brief fear subsided and was replaced by curiosity and respect. He walked calmly by my side on leash all the way to his kennel and entered without incident. I am curious about what THAT dream might mean, since it is not the standard “being chased or bitten by a lion” dream.
I have had a similar dream. I dreamt that I was walking a lion on a leash like he was my pet. We would walk up to people and his teeth would show and hair on his back would raise. I would tell everyone he wouldn’t bite them… we just kept walking everywhere….like a non stop walk
I seriously. have a problem. every year i see a lion standing by me. and connection with the moon. I want to know why
this is a very helpful site.
