The fox is often associated with the dark side of magic. In a lot of cultures, seeing a fox as you start a new project or endeavor is a bad omen. In some Native American belief systems, this animal represents the practice of negative sorcery and the dark manipulation of magic powers.
The fox has long been considered as a witty, quick and intelligent. In some European traditional tales, he’s the character who outsmarts humans and other animals alike and gets away even in the trickiest situations.
Dreaming about the fox
The fox and its ability to quietly and masterfully get into the hen house, have made this spirit animal a universal symbol of being sly, cunning, shrewd, clever, tricky and opportunistic. Therefore a fox in your dreams is often a symbol to watch out for danger from around you. There may be hidden enemies or rivals waiting for the right opportunity.
However, the fox may also be a symbol of connecting to the parts of you that are cunning and clever. Is there a situation that requires a clever solution? Is there an opportunity that is just waiting for you to take it?

You are immediately drawn to this quick and clever animal. You follow the fox as it leads you deeper into the forest path. A sense of excitement and adventure wells up inside of you.
As you continue on the path, the fox stops and turns to you, its bright eyes shining with clever wisdom and understanding. It starts to speak to you, its voice soft and reassuring: “I am the fox, the keeper of secrets and the master of disguise. I am a creature of the night, guided by my intuition. When I was in college, I was a member of a pagan organization. I am not pagan myself, but was keenly interested in learning about different flavors of paganism.
One member leaned toward a modern, hybrid, shamanistic approach. She led us all in a meditation exercise to meet our totem animals. I’m not a believer, so I expected nothing would happen for me, but I went along with the meditation.
After a series of steps, we landed in a field with something of value in our hands, outstretched and waiting. Unsurprisingly, I heard people around me start to call out the animal that came, and I just sat there.
Finally, a fox came. Not just any fox, but a red fox covered in jewels. He paused for a second to look at me, then stole my offering and ran.
Afterward, when I mentioned that a fox came, everyone in the room got quiet. A few years later, another pagan friend reassured me that it’s probably not a sign of anything, but that the fox was like,”what the heck are you doing here? Give me that thing!”
Who knows? This description doesn’t sound so bad.
I dont recall seeing one in my dream. But I did hear black fox said in my dream. What does that mean?
Hi! As you can see my name is Alice, I have a question to ask about having fox dreams, ok. So quite long ago when I was abit younger, I dreamed that I was a fox that was being served like royalty? I guess I could say, but now every time I dream about me being a Fox, a person that I feel like I know is presented to me, but they look like they want to kill me, then after that they simply bow down. And that’s it, the dream just ends! But this dream has happend very frequently, so my question issssss, what does this mean?
its probly reasureing you that if you ever feel threatend in your life your fox like natures will help you threw just trsut in your self. mabey… probly i dont know for sure but if I had a vivid dream like that I will feel like that.
This evening on a very humid May evening I noticed my cat was in a trance, staring out of our living room window. So I peered out with her, only to be stared back at by a lovely bushy tailed fox! We live near a busy main road and populated area so it’s quite rare to see such a beautiful large fox. Usually urban foxes seem very small and malnourished around here, which is so sad to see. But not this chap, he was strong and had the most wonderful face and thick coat! He looked at me right in the eyes, almost like he was staring into my soul. I said hello to him and he disappeared into the darkness. Not sure why he’s been sent to me yet, but he was fantastic. The moment we locked eyes I knew he was sent to tell me something.
I have always liked foxes, and like the fox I am a really cunning person I lie a lot.but recently I am always seeing foxes everywhere.on books, pictures, toys,(etc) and once I had a dream,I was walking around in my house and when I came to my mirror I saw a fox sitting next to me.
I had a dream when I was about sixteen years old that I heard someone singing. I walked towards it and opened this door. When I opened the door, I saw someone sitting in front of this old vanity mirror brushing their hair. I looked through the mirror and saw it was me. The dream me saw the real me and then turned to face me and when it did, the face wasn’t mine, it was a fox and it looked looked at is if it were smiling at me. I reached my hand out to it slowly and then it did the same. That was my dream. I’m 22 now and I’m starting to think that the fox is my spirit animal. I have been drawn to foxes ever since.
I had a dream i was standing still and a red fox was in front of me and started to run towards me then it jumped at me and in my dream i jumped to the left out of its way and woke up at that point by jerking as if i was jumping in bed to get out of the way.
please what does this mean ?
I was at work and I saw a red fox through the window…like 45 minutes after that I was driving on my way home and I saw it again, this time the fox looked at me. That’s why I am here…. thanks
I was on a trail at a small state park in Maine. I stopped in the trail to take some pix. No more than two minutes later I turned and there was BRAND NEW scat few feet away! 20 minutes later on another trail, same thing. Looked it up – fox scat! That was three days ago – and my problems have come into focus with clear & reasonable solutions (I’m homeless). Wow! :)
I also love in maine and after working the night shift, fell asleep on the back porch. I awoke to a Fox walking right by me. Not two days later I met a nice girl wearing a Fox shit who is into dream reading. Coincidence? I think not
This article had a huge impact on me. A year ago I started a business, and after months of determining the name and brand, I chose the Kitsune, the Japanese Mythical Fox. I know promote heavily with the fox image and then I read this article. It defined me to completely, and I fit the profile. Thank you author. It was not a coincidence what I chose obviously. I will no longer consider myself a night owl, but a night fox.
I’m interested in the fox and many other animals and birds.
A year ago I did an animal quiz and I got the fox, I was really shocked how accurate the description was to the fox to me. Then I heard about spirit animals and I figured out that the fox was my spirit animal, I even got some symbols that it was, then one day I saw a raccoon and it stared at me back, and I also end up doing research on the raccoon and it ends up that I have two spirit animals and ever since I found out I honor them both highly and respectfully.
Seriously? Come on.
