Wolf Spirit Animal

By Elena Harris, SpiritAnimal.info Editor

The wolf offers some of the most striking animal meanings in the realm of spirit animals. The power of the wolf brings forth instinct, intelligence, appetite for freedom, and awareness of the importance of social connections. This animal can also symbolize fear of being threatened and lack of trust. When the wolf shows up in your life, pay attention to what your intuition is telling you.

What is the wolf spirit animal meaning?

In the spirit animal kingdom, the wolf symbolizes:

  • Sharp intelligence, deep connection with instincts
  • Appetite for freedom
  • Expression of strong instincts
  • Feeling threatened, lack of trust in someone or in yourself

Positive symbolism of the wolf spirit animal

Positive meanings emphasize a deep connection with your intuition and instincts. On the negative side, the wolf could represent a perceived threat or a lack of trust in someone or your own feelings or actions. This spirit animal also reflects sharp intelligence in dealing with important matters.

Wolf spirit and connection with instincts

When you have the wolf as a spirit animal, it could be an expression of your sharp intelligence and strong instincts. The wolf symbolizes a strong connection with instincts and when it appears as a animal spirit guide, it could point to a way of perceiving and understanding the world around you that works similarly.

Whether the wolf appears in physical form or in a dream or meditation, it may reveal that you’re using your instincts and intuition to grasp a situation well. The fact that your wolf animal spirit guide shows up could also be a call to use this capacity to deal with a recent challenge you’ve experienced in your life.

If the presence of the wolf feels threatening, pay attention to how your instinctual nature and raw emotions can jeopardize your balance or the balance of people around you. Your power animal may appear in such light to warn you about devouring instincts of those belonging somebody around you.

It is useless for the sheep to pass resolutions in favor of vegetarianism, while the wolf remains of a different opinion.

The dark side of the wolf spirit animal

The dark side of the wolf totem: Sensitivity about feelings of threat

A wolf totem animal can represent a perceived threat or feeling you are being threatened. The presence of this spirit animal could be a reminder of an event, situation or a person you feel threatened by.

The wolf could reflect something that may have a “predatory” feel to it and instill a feeling of vulnerability that is not reassuring. Encountering your spirit animal in such a way invites you to look at who or what in your life is having such an influence.

Perhaps your spirit animal is warning you about challenges with personal boundaries: You may feel you have exposed yourself too much with someone or in a certain situation and need to pull back or strengthen emotional or physical boundaries with that person or in the context of that experience. The wolf as a spirit animal could also remind you that you’re facing stiff competition at work or that the behavior of people around may feel like you have to deal with a “pack of wolves”.

The wolf as representation being guided or misguided by instincts

Since a common meaning for the wolf spirit animal emphasizes the role of instincts, having this animal as a guide or totem could point to your relationship with how you live your life, and more specifically how you trust or mistrust your instincts and intuitive guidance.

Check whether you feel threatened by your own instincts and feelings. The presence of your wolf power animal could reflect your inner emotional landscape and bring to your awareness your own feelings about a matter that is highly emotionally charged.

Dream interpretation of the wolf spirit animal

The dream meanings associated with the wolf point to powerful instincts or habits that could be experienced as aggressive or dominating by others. Wolves in dreams convey the energetic imprint of strong sexual energy or addictive behaviors of different kinds that would benefit from being kept in check.

If a woman dreams of a wolf in a nightmare or anxious dream, she may be getting in touch with anxiety relating to a male partner who may be pushing his sexual desires very strongly or pushing her boundaries. The intensity of the relationship can cause fear and be experienced as a threat that the wolf symbolizes in the dream.

If the dream has a positive tone or outcome, the wolf could be interpreted as a guiding symbol for trusting your instincts more or expressing them in a more balanced manner. If you have such a dream, ask yourself if you feel at ease and supported by your instincts, especially your sexuality or a partner’s sexual expression, or other types of “cravings” in your life.

I had a dream that I was bit by a dog on my leg. When someone was able to pull the dog off, I was standing over my body, seeing the gaping hole that the dog had bit…. but my body that I was standing over was that of a wolf. Looking at this hole of my wolf body, my heart was exposed and nearly pierced by long, sharp thorns. No bleeding, just a clear picture of a steady beating heart in the open. Yet even in this condition, I was at peace.

Traditionally, The Tiger Has Always Been My Totem. Whether She Is White Or Of Flame. But Tonight I Had A Dream/ Nightmare, Where I Heard The Sound And Felt The Presence Of A Large Wolf, I Became Terrified And Panicked, I Ran Toward A Truck Seeking Some Form Of Shelter From What I Knew Was A Large Wolf..I Had Gloves On That Would Not Allow Me To Open The Door To Said Truck, I Woke Up Scared To Death And Even Now I’m Still Nervous And ILL At Ease.

I been having dreams of a a larger darker wolf standing in front of me and on either side there are three smaller wolves. They always surround me. Like I said the larger darker wolf is Alway standing in front of me. What does that mean.

I think you have to look to yourself for the answer. How do you feel in your dream? Do you feel protected or threatened. I to am very curious about the meanin and importance. I’m usually a very grounded person but recently I to had an experience with a wolf while meditating. I’ve used meditation for a while now as pain management and I came across this australian guy, Michael Sealey, who makes the most amazing meditation tracks. Among other tracks he also had one about finding your inner pow animal. I thought “What the heck…. I can always use our cat!” To my great surprise this large female wolf appeared though I was preparing to “see” my cat in my visualisation. Astonishing experience and I still have to digest it. Since then this wolf appears often when I meditate and follows me along. She brings me a calming safe feeling and sometimes she seems dominating and protective. I’ve never felt threatened though I’ve sometimes sensed the wild and fierce animal in her.
Try Michael Sealey’s track maybe it will unveil the meaning to you. I’ve come to think that the appearance of the wolf is because I need power and strength to help me through a transition in my life.

Last night I had a dream that a large completely black wolf was sitting next to my bed. As I woke up in the dream the wolf licked my face and tried to chew in a friendly way on my beard. My beard is about one centimeter all around my face so there wasn’t much to chew on 🙂 He or she was looking straight into my eyes but nothing was said, there was just a deep connection.

Some time ago I had a very visual dream were I connected with a brow buffalo too. I have also connected with the anaconda during an ayahuasca ceremony, I actually became the green snake and moved around in the rain forest, high up in the trees. It was very beautiful.

I knew I was connected to the wolves more and more. I know the wolf is my spirit for 1 of many reasons. The first one my last name in Spanish means savage which is a wolf’s character trait. Secondly when I turned 18 I was able to get my first tattoo and immediately it was the picture of a wolf but not any wolf, a lone wolf. And my last reason, ever since I say 2 months ago I been having dreams of a mountain covered in snow. It is so beautiful, but I notice that there is a forest down from the mountain. I’m running in this dream but not running human running more like a dog or a wolf. I go running for a while but every time before I wake up I stop running and I notice red eyes and just the ears of the wolf I notice and as soon as I look into those red eyes I wake up. I meditate to reconnect with that wolf in my dream but all I see is the eyes looking at me. What does it mean?

I was outside this morning and when I turned around a HUGE white wolf was 10 foot behind me. He came from my woods. He was calm and not afraid. I shood him and when he started to come near me I ran. My daughter was watching thru the window and saw him trot off down my drive. I looked for tracks. None. Could this be my guardian trying to warn me? I have seen gray wolves here but no one has seen a white one. He was beautiful but I respect them.

I come from a spiritualist family D’lorah and in my opinion yes it could be a guardian angel or spirit just watching over you. The living can see spirits always but the spirits wont leave traces so that explains why there were no tracks.

I’ve had wolves show up many times in dreams. There were three that reoccurred a lot though. These three would lead me on chases through snow, some were random while others were after deer or rabbits. The alpha seemed to be a large black male with a small white mark on his face and the other two were smaller females, one blondish and white the other white and light brown.

Perhaps your guide didn’t feel you needed help. They don’t come for bad times, they come when you need them.

That said, I wouldn’t ever trust an online test to tell you your guide, truth is they often change based on what you need most.

My wolf came to me in a dream when I was in prison. I never knew the meaning of it until years later I met a tiger and that’s what she was. I read the wolf totem story’s and that’s my life. I walk this world in that manner always but God just told me who I truly am. He waited till I was ready to hear those words to begin my life. I did 7 years I had 1 dream that I didn’t really understand(I dream a lot) but that dream was 3 1/2 years into that 7. God didn’t put it in words until 5 months after I got released from 3 1/2 years later.my life’s just began
