Wolf Spirit Animal

Wolf Spirit Animal

By Elena Harris, SpiritAnimal.info Editor

The wolf offers some of the most striking animal meanings in the realm of spirit animals. The power of the wolf brings forth instinct, intelligence, appetite for freedom, and awareness of the importance of social connections. This animal can also symbolize fear of being threatened and lack of trust. When the wolf shows up in your life, pay attention to what your intuition is telling you.

What is the wolf spirit animal meaning?

In the spirit animal kingdom, the wolf symbolizes:

  • Sharp intelligence, deep connection with instincts
  • Appetite for freedom
  • Expression of strong instincts
  • Feeling threatened, lack of trust in someone or in yourself

Positive symbolism of the wolf spirit animal

Positive meanings emphasize a deep connection with your intuition and instincts. On the negative side, the wolf could represent a perceived threat or a lack of trust in someone or your own feelings or actions. This spirit animal also reflects sharp intelligence in dealing with important matters.

Wolf spirit and connection with instincts

When you have the wolf as a spirit animal, it could be an expression of your sharp intelligence and strong instincts. The wolf symbolizes a strong connection with instincts and when it appears as a animal spirit guide, it could point to a way of perceiving and understanding the world around you that works similarly.

Whether the wolf appears in physical form or in a dream or meditation, it may reveal that you’re using your instincts and intuition to grasp a situation well. The fact that your wolf animal spirit guide shows up could also be a call to use this capacity to deal with a recent challenge you’ve experienced in your life.

If the presence of the wolf feels threatening, pay attention to how your instinctual nature and raw emotions can jeopardize your balance or the balance of people around you. Your power animal may appear in such light to warn you about devouring instincts of those belonging somebody around you.

It is useless for the sheep to pass resolutions in favor of vegetarianism, while the wolf remains of a different opinion.

The dark side of the wolf spirit animal

The dark side of the wolf totem: Sensitivity about feelings of threat

A wolf totem animal can represent a perceived threat or feeling you are being threatened. The presence of this spirit animal could be a reminder of an event, situation or a person you feel threatened by.

The wolf could reflect something that may have a “predatory” feel to it and instill a feeling of vulnerability that is not reassuring. Encountering your spirit animal in such a way invites you to look at who or what in your life is having such an influence.

Perhaps your spirit animal is warning you about challenges with personal boundaries: You may feel you have exposed yourself too much with someone or in a certain situation and need to pull back or strengthen emotional or physical boundaries with that person or in the context of that experience. The wolf as a spirit animal could also remind you that you’re facing stiff competition at work or that the behavior of people around may feel like you have to deal with a “pack of wolves”.

The wolf as representation being guided or misguided by instincts

Since a common meaning for the wolf spirit animal emphasizes the role of instincts, having this animal as a guide or totem could point to your relationship with how you live your life, and more specifically how you trust or mistrust your instincts and intuitive guidance.

Check whether you feel threatened by your own instincts and feelings. The presence of your wolf power animal could reflect your inner emotional landscape and bring to your awareness your own feelings about a matter that is highly emotionally charged.

Dream interpretation of the wolf spirit animal

The dream meanings associated with the wolf point to powerful instincts or habits that could be experienced as aggressive or dominating by others. Wolves in dreams convey the energetic imprint of strong sexual energy or addictive behaviors of different kinds that would benefit from being kept in check.

If a woman dreams of a wolf in a nightmare or anxious dream, she may be getting in touch with anxiety relating to a male partner who may be pushing his sexual desires very strongly or pushing her boundaries. The intensity of the relationship can cause fear and be experienced as a threat that the wolf symbolizes in the dream.

If the dream has a positive tone or outcome, the wolf could be interpreted as a guiding symbol for trusting your instincts more or expressing them in a more balanced manner. If you have such a dream, ask yourself if you feel at ease and supported by your instincts, especially your sexuality or a partner’s sexual expression, or other types of “cravings” in your life.

Hey im dealign with the same thing, I’ve always loved wolves for some reason, its even weirder because I’m from a Caribbean island lol, but when i was little i would howl or at least try to howl like one. I’ve always felt a strong connection with them, I even want to get a husky , for what its worth to me they look like wolves. All those other test have also said Wolf is my animal spirit, and they also said its for entertaining purposes so im clueless like you.

Who knows what it means when there are 2 wolves in a dream, 1 black and the other whitish/silver like, & both of them ask, “choose your path for each side holds a reward and sacrifice.”
My question is for who ever can answer it. Because I’ve had that dream for the past week and every time I’m close to giving both an answer I wake up and it starting to bother me if I should even bother with the dream or just let it go.

You are faced with a disision will you take the path of ritiousness an sacrifice your own wants and disires to become enlightend about a recent situation that has arose in your life. Or walk down the path of selfisness push away the energy and thoughts of others to conect with smthing you want out of life that you feel you must impatiently take. Sorry bout the bad gramar and spelling hope that helps you make the choice or understand the choice you’ve already made

Sorry dream Weaver I must disagree with you. You must understand I have been searching for something my whole life and I have been down that road where life ends or doesn’t at my own hand. I’ve been asked this question before. You can’t interpret this for anyone this one is all theirs. White doesn’t always mean right. Especially in life. Why? Some people don’t practice duality. For some good, evil, light, dark, aren’t seen for what they truly are. Sometimes doing the most evil thing one could possibly imagine is the only way to make things RIGHT! You can’t just fluff up the pillow for people. Sometimes they will smother you with it…

I need a little info. I believe my animal spirit is a wolf. I have a reoccurring dream where I’m running with a pack of wolves on a hunt and also on a run to protect our territory from another pack. I have also had a reoccurring dream where i shape shift into a wolf. I have been able to spiritually shift into a wolf though i cant hold the form for to long as it takes a lot of energy to do this. Any info would be greatly appreciated

I seen that sneaky wolf of mine in the corner if my eye yesterday. I don’t always see him but when I do, it’s a body part;his ears, tail back, head. My mother has even said she’s seen in the corner of her eye, she has seen him following me. Is this possible? I want to see him more! I’ve became very comfortable with him. I want to know everything about him. How can I speak with him? Why does he come to me?

these past few years of my life i have been bullied and tortured. I lost my greatgrandmother who gave me a dog tag. this was a tag i had given her many years ago when i found it in a chest underneath her house. before she died she gave it to me saying she cleaned it and to read the letter that was also in the small chest. that night i went home amd read the tag which said: go forever into the woods and find your true self. the letter read didnt say who it was from or who it was to. the letter said: to whom may find this chest remember these words: Where all men blindly follow the truth Remember nothing is true Where all men are limited by morality and law Remember everything is permitted We work in the night to serve the light We are the wolf pack. After i read that i started getting bullied for wearing that tag. All that happened and recurring in my dreams there was a girl that i liked and she had he most beautiful almost maroon colored eyes when i had that dream i was always chasing after her she was a bright golden colored wolf with maroon eyes. after i found out she didnt like me she disappeares from my dreams i was heartbroken. that night when she disappeared i transformed into a beautiful shiny black pelted wolf with deep maroon eyes like her i had long black and maroon colored angel wings and i was searching for her throughout the course of seven years After that it was over and my wolf has gotten stronger and more powerful as when i meditate and remember the night i recieved the letter i am a wolf and freedom from tyranny and bullies is all i wish for as well as my friends are very loyal to me and many of my friends call me leader of the pack as we are a well known group around my school district and i would die for my friends and my friends would die for me

    • Traveler April 7, 2013 at 10:45 pm - Reply

Keep the tag, dont throw it away for reasons others impose on you. In a twist of fate, you found that tag, and that letter, with its meanings given to you and only, 7 billion people on this planet and you found it.

Seems you are starting a journey that might come to some sort of conclusion/realisation in one year. I say one year as you said you searched for seven years in your dream while in the form of a Wolf, a Wolf is part of the Canus Lupis family, as are Dogs, and we all know the saying that “1 year for us is 7 years for a Dog”, so why would it not be for other animals from the Canis lupus family.

Keep an eye open for a golden haired, maroon eye person, or animal in the future. Maybe there is a deep connection just waiting to be formed between you two. Destiny is a mystical thing and fate loves to play with it.

It’s funny, when I was small I used to play what I called “Mystery wolf” where I would talk to the good wolf and escape from the bad. I remember actually being able to see these wolves even now. Detail and everything. I wonder if it was a spirit animal?

I had a dream that I was watching a black wolf run through the woods from above it. The whole thing was very relaxing, I felt like I belonged with the wolf. After a while the wolf stopped and I sat infront of it admiring it. When I woke up I could see it’s eyes every time I blinked.

I had my tonsils out when I was 8. My father always silenced me with “children are to be seen & not heard”. Until recently I’ve always felt unseen & unheard. 2 years ago I had a transforming spiritual awakening. I’ve been working on the healing of all my past traumas. For decades I’ve had problems with my throat & neck area. Raw inflammed pain in throat & continual stiff neck. I was meditating on it and saw a wolf mauling my throat, angrily ripping into it. I looked up evil spirits and demons and couldn’t find anything relating to wolves, so I just forgot about it. Just today, I was meditating on releasing my 5th (throat) chakra, again, because, of the never ceasing pain and discomfort. Again, a year later, in my meditation the wolf shows up shredding into my throat. This time I asked her why she was there and what she was doing that for. She answered me and said that it was because I didn’t have my voice for myself and that I hadn’t loved myself enough. I also felt like she wanted me to love her and pet her; which I did, in my mind’s eye I hugged her around her neck and spoke lovingly to her. She then began to lick the wounds on my neck and then I envisioned her howling as one being able to give voice to the deep emotions in their heart. I felt as if she was representing me. I again hugged her and held her and I feel she is happy now. It was after this meditation that she might possibly be my animal totem; which I have never studied or entertained in my mind before and this was the first website I pulled up on the subject. My throat still hurts but I feel a new lightness and am excited about the possibility of meeting my guide friend. Comments and insight are welcomed.

So just recently my wolf spirit guide came to me and I’m having some trouble understanding it all. It came to me in a vision when I was meditating and it hasn’t left my side since. My husband is deployed and for the first time since he left I do not feel alone. I suddenly feel even more possessive and protective of my husband though. He says it’s not necessary but I don’t think he realizes that it’s not a choice, but my duty as his mate and spouse. I’m not sure he totally understands this part of it, but I’m sure in time he will. He says he will try to let me care for him more when he gets home. 🙂

I also want to share that before my wolf came to me, I had many moments of feeling sorry for myself. I don’t have any friends where we’re stationed and it’s hard being alone, but since my wolf came to me I feel stronger than ever. I don’t feel depressed at all.
