The Crow, a Spirit Animal Symbolic of Magic

Crows are commonly associated with magic and the power to manipulate physical appearances. Ted Andrews in his classic on animal totems “Animal Speak” mentions that we can find crows are common animals that we can find all around the globe. As such, they are a reminder that magic is everywhere. When you encounter a crow, just tune into its behavior and it will give you a clue on how to use the magic powers it carries.

Only last night he felt deadly sick, and, after a great deal of pain, two black crows flew out of his mouth and took wing from the room.

By affinity with this trait, those who have the crow as a spirit animal or totem will enjoy a position from where they can see things from a higher perspective.

The Crow Spirit Animal, a Guide about Fearlessness and Determination

Have you ever watched a group of crows ganging up together and chasing out birds much bigger than they are? This behavior makes the crow a useful animal totem to call when you need support in dealing with adversity. If the crow chose you as your power animal, you are encouraged to develop your personal will power and speak your truth more loudly.

Crows always seem to be able to get away with what they are after, be it a piece of food left on the road or sneaking into other birds’ nests to steal or eat their eggs. Echoing this trait, those with the crow as totem or spirit guide might watch for the tendency to trick or be a bit manipulative.

The Crow In Your Dreams

While the crow appearing in a dream is sometimes considered a bad omen, a foreshadowing of sadness, this is only one of many meanings. A deeper interpretation of this meaning is that the crow is said to fly between the worlds of life and death and an appearance in your dreams may signify a message about your thoughts on life, death and transformation.

Crows are also very intelligent and dreaming about a crow or crows may be a sign of your wisdom or intuition. Your subconscious may be telling you to trust your intuition.

The crow is also a symbol of transformation. What part of your life is or may be going through a transition? Maybe you are changing relationships or careers? Maybe you are buying a new house? Whatever it is, the crow is signaling that you are ready to make the change!

I recently completed a weekend workshop on Reiki Shamanism and the Crow came to work with me as a new power animal for this shamanic journeying work. Makes perfect sense! Thanks :)

Im not a believer in totems but after reading this article its making me really curious. yesterday around noon i was meditating on my hammock outside and out of the blue flew in a gang of crows. They flew in one by one surrounding me, just starring at me and so i starred at them back.moments later they spread out further into the woods and kept starring at me.At that moment i knew they were up to something so i proceeded to stare back and observe. They came in closer one by one agian and as i observed them individually i noticed they all had different characteristics; having to do with the way they behaved, and looked. They drew in closer and at this point i was feeling a little scared, it felt like they wanted to attack me but i stood my ground. The leader than started laughing at me,and mocking me, i felt confused. I didn't feel any hate towards it or any negative emotion, i was just bewildered. Moments later they flew off one by one leaving the leader for last.

Last night, I dreams of finding a somewhat intelligent crow in my house. I tried to kill him repeatedly but he mocked me and kept cawing. I tried breaking his neck to no avail. I spent alot of time trying to drown him to no avail. At some point it because almost an obsession to kill it because it just refused to die. This was a very unusual dream for me as I'm usually not violent in my dreams, though my dreams are usually very symbolic -- but I'm at a loss on this one. Any opinions?

I recently lost my father (been a month) and I'm still in the process of grieving (alone). I miss him very dearly, he was my most favourite person and I, his. Yesterday while sitting in my room I heard someone knock on my window. Found it odd because I live on the fifth floor. When I got up to check, I found a crow tapping away furiously at my window. I opened my window hoping to get some clarity and there I found a dragonfly, perched on the window sill. Mom always told me that dad loved dragonflies..always played with them as a kid. I know I'm not letting my dad rest in peace the way I grieve for him. I just wish I could see him and hold him again. I keep dreaming of him almost everyday but he keeps ignoring me and avoiding me in most dreams. The one time he spoke to me in my dream was to tell me he was dying :( I miss you

About seven years ago during a difficult time in my life I was working a dead end job living in a crappy apartment in a smallish town without a car. I had to walk miles to buy groceries and one day a large crow landed on my left shoulder as I was walking down the street. I don't really buy into the spirit animal thing but the character traits of the crow listed here describe me well. Wise and manipulative. That has not changed. I am a big fan of "magic' as well. At least that's what I call psychedelic chemicals.

Yesterday morning i woke up, opened the door just to get the morning fresh air. Only to witness four of them flying from the house to the wall around the yard. Just when i step outside the fly away. Through the years they have been around walking around the wall, i was convinced then they built nests in the roof somewhere (actually i think there is a lot of birds in my yard because all i can see in the morning os birf foot steps). I was rather shocked at them flying away. Is this a sign of something? Since i had a frieght and asked myself a lot of questions after that

I tied with crow and owl. Does this mean something? They both are birds, I know that. I wish to know what it means...

Reading all of this kind of leaves me with some questions and a little bit of confusion. I have 3 beautiful black crows with these amazing blue eyes that like to come and eat my cat's food. These three crows take it in turns to come down from wherever they are perched at the time, but it's always three that are near the house. A part of me thinks its just for the food but at the same time I had an eye to eye connection with one and now I can't help but think that its something else. I guess I'm kind of hoping someone might be able to give me some insight to why there is only ever three.

I had three crows cross me this morning and I thought it was very symbolic. I was looking for an answer to this as well, but it was three crows, all three crossed me while speaking

It's Saturday morning, all is quiet and peaceful am quite happily lying in bed reading, when I heard some noise actually as though someone was unlocking my back gate and creeping along outside my window, to my astonishment, there was a crow as black as coal, on my window ledge, it started to look in my window while tapping my window, when I arose from bed, it's friend was on my fence but a single magpie (baby) had flew to my window ledge and acted as the crow peered in had a look and tapped, my spiritual journey is ongoing but think the crow, gave me some knowledge on how to move forward, my initial reaction was "oh no" but after reading and thinking carefully of situation, I am thankful for the crowd message xx

They have been my family's guides forever. one died near my house today and the whole flock was there to mourn. Is there something I can do to help him on his way? Call the Alala to help guide him?

I have no doubts about the Crow being my Spirit Animal. I have had a very strong intuition most of my life, and I started being followed by Crows when I was about 13 or 14 years of age. The crows came to me after some significantly traumatic events took place. I had no friends, and every time I saw the crows I felt lifted. I felt as though they were trying to tell me things, but also keep me company. In 2012 when I was homeless, living in my car in the "dog-days" of summer in Tampa, FL. I had just landed a job working an internship as a Graphic Designer. (Something that I was chasing after since graduating in 2010) My phone would overheat constantly as an effect of being in over 100 degree weather (my cavalier was SO HOT!). I had set my alarms for my first day at my new dream job, but of course my phone had shut itself off, unbeknownst to me, because I was asleep. I awoke to a loud "Sqwaukk!". I opened my eyes to see a very large crow perched upon my driver's side mirror. ---I want to tell you that I had made this image as a piece of art (pointillism) in 3 years prior to this exact moment. So the crow being my totem, I knew, not only was this crow waking me up for my first day of my dream job, but it was also telling me other messages. I have always known I was tied to birds in some fascinating way, but I never knew this bird could be so influential in my entire existence. I am so thankful for this wonderful, smart, creature as my totem... that words cannot explain.

Aug 05- 2017 7:40am - waking up slowly as it is my first day off in over a month and have lots of plans for chores, and settling into my new apartment quietly over the weekend. Sitting outside on my deck I was looking at a crow grooming itself on the power line about 10 meters away- I'm on a 3rd floor apartment. As I was describing this crow I was observing to my sister over the phone mentioning how black this bird appeared to be and what a long neck it had - moments later- a second crow -(that I hadn't seen moments before) flew right to me and landed on my left shoulder, partially on my back. A little surprised - I turned in circles "shake" the crow off. I had to circle twice - as I was turning the crow's wings were fluttering in my face - so I closed my eyes a bit to shield them. The crow didn't squak, didn't peck, didn't sink it's claws into my skin, didn't poop on me- it just twirled around with me twice before it flew off and perched on the nearest pine tree a few meters away. As I was still on the phone call with my sister I told her what had just happened, the the first crow I was watching previously, still on the powerline - swooped over from the power line to join this second crow in the pine tree. Such an odd way to start the day, but grateful mother nature is reaching out to me. Any interpretations of what this may mean folks? I appreciate the description above of having a spirit guide - but wonder if there is something more to it?

Still curious to see if any intuitive types may have an interpretation of events...been on my mind...
      • Pat
See my post below. It is possible that someone on the phone with you was dangerous to you. They were either intentionally or unknowingly transmitting a spell designed to cause you a stroke, heart attack, or affect you in some malevolent way. Crows are very helpful to identify danger. They are not ever going to hurt you.
        • Kelley
Thanks Pat, I agree on crows not causing harm - was proved to me clearly in the experience described above. Perhaps...danger or a warning could be true?...in a way??- I know my sister, very well and any harm to me would never be intentional- frankly she doesn't have the intelligence to challenge me (in anyway) and she knows this well. I'm wondering if maybe she's the one in trouble? Is someone trying to hurt her?

I have crows come to me, either single ones or crowds of them. When a single one appears in the sky it is an omen of a predator (hitman) in the direction of that crow. It could be a place that I was intending to visit and would find a hitman there. A flock of crows once came to a tree in front of my house. It warned me that danger ( a hitman) was going to be coming soon right to my house. I quickly left my house and drove to my local library located across the street from our municipal police station. Since I have psychic ability I can discern the intent of people in my environment. While I was browsing magazines in a reading room, a hitman came in (paid by the pharmaceutical industry) and just waited. Just prior to that day, I had inadvertently been approached by a woman from Eastern Europe, and I disclosed to her something secret from my fathers past concerning the pharmaceutical industry. I didn't know that she was Russian but the NSA did and they started to put me under surveillance. Luckily for me, slightly after the hitman came and sat across from me in the reading room, an NSA surveillance agent came around and sat right outside the reading looking directly at us through a glass door. The hitman recognized that I was under government surveillance and took off. My eternal thanks to the NSA for protecting me from this hitman.
