Cat Spirit Animal
Cat Symbolism
The cat carries many meanings revolving around the balance between seemingly opposites, such as inner and outer, action and rest, light and dark. It’s strongly symbolic of the connection with what usually hides in darkness or the unknown. The cat generally represents:
- Patience, waiting for the right moment to act
- Independence, yet enjoying social connections
- Spirit of adventure, courage
- Deep, relaxed connection with self
- Healing from the inside out
- Curiosity, exploration of the unknown or the unconscious
Let’s remember that the cat as we know it today mostly as a domestic animal was not a common animal for the American Indians. It was introduced by the European settlers and therefore is not part of the original totemic traditions. Nevertheless, cat symbolism has pervaded many ancient and modern cultures around the world. One of the most well-known is the worship of the cat in ancient Egypt. Nowadays, the cat is often part of our ordinary life and an inspiring animal totem for many of us.
“Cats, as you know, are quite impervious to threats.”

Cats and exploration of the unknown
Cats tend to be active at night and are able to see in the dark thanks to their highly adaptable eyes. Because they can be seen roaming around at night, they are associated in several cultures with the realm of the darkness. By extension, the cat has been considered as a symbol or representative of witchcraft and dark magic arts, especially if its color is black!
Another way to see the meaning of the cat as a spirit animal or totem is to pay attention to its ability to see in the dark and be at ease when most other animals and humans are not. If the cat shows up in your life as a spirit guide or you have this animal as totem, you may be inclined to start exploring areas in your life or aspects or yourself that you do not know well yet.

You may be called to bring more balance between your social life, whether it’s in your family, work or school, and time alone. The cat spirit animal could also encourage you to find a way of exploring your inner truths, as well as mystical truths, without sacrificing the connections you have with the rest of your environment.
Dreaming About Cats
Dreams are our subconscious minds communicating to us using the language of symbols. While some traditions think that a dream of a cat is a bad omen, this meaning is loosing favor in our more modern times. Dreams of cats have more often come to symbolize your feminine essence and sensuality. Dreams about cats may also be a message to tap into your inner mischievous and mysterious nature. A black cat in your dreams may be telling you to pay attention to your intuition. As far back as the ancient Egyptians and possibly farther, cats have been believed to be able to travel between dimensions. Is there a message from another dimension here for you?

I’m a cat meow
I had an outer body experience one night and in this dark room I saw pair of eyes after asking who it was “it said the sound of my voice is the color of your hair…then after that I saw a white cat sitting and it stared at me for a while before entering my body what does this mean?
Cats are mythical creatures and should not have ordinary names. My cat Shadows is my best friend. She saved my life several times. She is no longer with me but sometimes I still see her spirit around the house. I miss her very much.
I have just about decided that I have a spirit cat. I have though for several years it was a fuzzy puppy. . What ever it is as soon as I get in bed at night it immediately lays on my feet it beside my lower legs . I have several because there will be one on each foot and one at my back They like to be very close and seem to get cold. Really like to snuggle. They never scare me but they have grown from; from the size they were w hen they first showed up. I have seen fuzzy animals that looked like they night weigh 5 – 8 pounds. Looked like a little brown bear. I wonder why they are here and I have tried t o send them away as I do spirits Command them to leave in the name of Jesus. If I’m stern enough they w ill leave but they always come back in a few days.. I wish they would just go away and stay away and forget about me. Some times they keep me awake because they get heavy on my feet, How do I get rid of them?
Mmhmm. I feel ya love. I personally have had some life-threatening experimentses with dogs and cats. One time this cat scratched my face and ruined my makeup. I sent him to timeout. His name was Fluffy, he’s dead now.
One night I was sat up in bed, asking my guide to help me and I was shown a black cat with its features outlined in gold, I noticed that it was looking/watching me with both eyes and its mind eye as well. Could anyone tell me more about this or have others had a similar experience???
I’ve had previous cats that have passed visit me while i was dreaming. It was so comforting to see them again and spend time with them. My most recent one that passed, I’ve never had a stronger bond with an animal. It was almost like I could understand what his thoughts were and he mine. He knew I would do anything for him and in his final days he would turn into me and put his arm up and hold on to mine. I wish I could’ve done more to save him, I wish we could’ve had more time together. I feel so lost with him gone and he hasn’t come to visit me yet but I’m hoping he will soon. I just want to tell him I’m sorry and that I miss him.
I am sorry for your loss. It is beautiful your cat visits you in your dreams. I am sure you visit him I’m in his dreams as well. I like the think we exist in different realms. I hope you feel peace as cats are such angels when they feel that way ❤️
I remember walking down the road to my aunts house one day and all of a sudden a fluffy orange cat with green eyes was staring at me when I looked I saw his eyes his/her eyes were looking very gently into mines I felt like he/she was trying to tell me something when I kept walking he/she followed me a little while still looking into my eyes he/she eventually walked away felt I should share this even though it might seem normal
Ok so, I landed on this page because the other night I had the strangest experiences ever. Two things happened: first I was dreaming and all of a sudden I experienced an OBE. I usually tried to practice them and it never worked out, but this time it’s like my subconcious told me: now it’s the time to leave your body. The hole thing got kinda ruined by my fear: I was in another dimension and my hole body was vibrating like a freaking mandoline chord! So I re-entered my body, though the vibrations kept going on for a while. After that, between 5 and 6 in the morning I was sleeping but at the same time I was slightly awake because of my hamster ruining the wheel. While thinkin’ about how annoying that was, I heard a cat’s moaning. At the first moan I was like: ok, I’m probably dreaming. At the second I felt the cat right next to me so I jumped right outta bed freakin’ out. Seriously, what is wrong with me?
I realized I wrote ruining the wheel.. I meant running, it’s been autocorrected
Make sure these are indeed cat spirits, and not the almost a cat shaped spirits, which are broadened at the chest, and less lithe and agile than cats or spirit cats. I don’t know what these things are called, they are blackish, smokey, but not exactly cats.. I clear them out. I am not afraid of them, but I also don’t think they should be in my house.
